Youth Rugby - Hard to Reach Young People
Investment project code: 318
Estimated Price
£900
Summary
We have started an iniative to try and attract players from deprived areas who are either hard to reach kids or kids that have been let down by other sports and are danger of being lost to sport and the associated wellbeing benefits that brings
Description
We are currently working (primarily within the Castlepark area) with local schools to introduce young people to rugby, through the delivery of various programmes and iniatives. Once the young person (YP) is engaged we invite them to the club to join in with our players. A big part of sport and being part of a team is wearing the same kit. We understand that a big barrier to young people participating is down to the initial cost of the sports kit. That's why we are trying to offer the kit to the YP at a reduced rate or preferrably free of charge. We have successfully carried this out with two YP last season and they are still fully engaged with the club. We are about to embark on a Rugby World Cup themed schools programme which will introduce more YP to rugby and the benefits this brings in terms of the development of confidence, discipline, mutual self respect and a focus on fair play through physical activity.
Costs
Following on from the success of last season, this year we hope to Target 10 YP. As a club all our coaches are volunteers so we don't have a cost for delivering the sessions. That means all our funding can be used for it's desired purpose.
