Dalry Community Sports Club, will be working in partnership with both, Dalry Community Development Hub and Dalry Action Group to reintroduce a proposed yearly gala event, to be held in Dalry Public Park. All groups have within them, the previous experience and knowledge required to progress this, where we will pull our resources together to ensure this is successfully progressed. Dalry Community Sports Club currently has a temporary occupational licence for the sports pavilion within the park, and is in the final stages of an asset transfer of these premises – this pavilion is an excellent focal point from which to stage this event, where we have recently refurbished welfare and toilet facilities for use on the day. This year`s King`s Coronation event was a great success and was managed by Dalry Action Group with a number of local groups in support including DCSC. We see these events as an extension of some of the work that we are involved in, where we are looking to help address some of the key issues in our community, including, social isolation, food deprivation, mental health & wellbeing and the impact of the current cost of living crisis. We would look for this event to encourage people to come out, and make use of this great outdoor space that the park offers, minimise the cost of participation, especially for families where we would look to have as many free / low cost activities as possible, and also offer free food, previously this has been burgers / hot dogs. Dalry Community Development Hub will also be promoting the Community Garden. Their stall will also have supplies and tools to enable people to come and try to “grow their own” eg compost, pots, plants, Hints & Tips etc. Dalry Community Sports Club will also have a stall promoting their latest project - the creation of Community Allotments, which will include, Community gardens, Educational Area and Allotment Letting opportunities. They will take this opportunity to consult those present as to what else they would like to see adjacent to the allotment area and use the event to promote their continuing projects – Sports Pavilion, Parklives, Community Larder, Warm Space etc. Hopefully this will lead to some volunteers. Volunteers from the Sports Club will also be circulating on the day asking people to complete surveys for upcoming events and projects. This could also include, initiatives by Partner groups, including, Christmas Lights, which is run in partnership with Dalry Action Group. These have all worked very well in previous events where we have seen generous donations by those in attendance. We do see this type of event, as a key driver to help bring people together and help to build a better, more inclusive and stronger community for us all to live in.

Throughout the year we hold fundraising events such as Bingo nights and the Halloween Disco to help raise money to put towards our christmas lights switch on, Our current lights are currently outdated and are costing more and more to repair every year, we do try to replace as many lights as we can each year but taking into account the current finiancial situation within out community we try to provide as many free activities as we can on the night so that all families can attend and enjoy. Also we like to provide the kids with a little christmas light so they can take part in our torch and tinsel parade where they can join santa in a walk upto the town where the lights get switched on. Some of the activities we provide are Balloon Modelling, Face Painting, Mini Zoo, Santas Grotto, Alpacas, and a Fun Fair.

Arran Churches Together (ACT) Food Bank

Our request for funding from NAC Participatory Budget would help our volunteers to ensure that there was sufficiient stock on our food bank shelves. We anticipate that over the winter months, when households are having to cover the cost of heating, that food bank usage will increase - we need to be able to support anyone in need.
Monetary donations from local people and organisations allow ACT volunteers to purchase further food, allowing us to keep the shelves stocked. All donations - monetary and food - are made by local residents; we receive no support from other sources. We are currently spending around £300 each week to enable foodbank demand to be met. Our request for £1,000 from Locality Fund PB would ensure that ACT Food bank can make adequate provision for approximately one month.

Largs Music Club (LMC)

I moved to Largs late 2022 and created Largs Music Club soon after in response to the interest I received since floating the idea on social media.
LMC offers an informal setting for amateur musicians to meet on a regular basis and encourage and teach one another to improve their skill-level on their preferred musical instrument.
The club is growing in popularity since word is out that we existing members offer a friendly and relaxed environment for those keen to learn at their own pace without fear of judgement or impatience. As membership is growing, so does the variety of instruments being learned and taught.
The club relies on individuals contributing their time and equipment to teach fellow members how to play their preferred instrument. With funding, I would aim to purchase equipment to make that teaching more accessible - music stands, microphones, microphone stands, a Public Address system, amplifiers, mixing desk and some basic entry level instruments to encourage those who do not own an instrument (but who wish to learn one), to join us. These items are expensive and realistically will require additional funding from me and some other willing members to supplement any money issued following this application. However, I am confident that your contribution will assist LMC continue to grow in membership and reputation and eventually lead to the club playing music for the community.
The Public Address system is approximately £500. A couple of small amplifiers will cost an additional £500.
Our club assists develop confidence as well as musical literacy, with participants being encouraged to play live for friends and family and in time, for larger audiences, once the club starts playing local live shows as per my vision.
Feedback from participants so far evidence the mental health benefits of playing and learning in our community, a benefit I will highlight as I further promote our initiative in the community. Our latest member told me that since moving to Largs very recently, she was delighted when, a chance encounter with a then stranger in the park led to her learning about our club. Nervous but curious, she came along with her new friend and has made many more new friends through our practice. That she is also getting better at playing her guitar, almost now seems like a bonus.

Family Fun at Redburn

Organising family fun events and day trips in a local community affected by poverty and the increased costs of living can have numerous positive benefits for individuals and the community as a whole including -
Bringing The Community Together : Fun days and days away provide opportunities for people to come together, fostering a sense of belonging and community cohesion. This can lead to stronger social connections and a more supportive local environment.
Reduced Social Isolation : For individuals and families experiencing poverty, socail isolation can be asignificant issue. By providing activities that are accessible to all, the community events can help combat isolation, lonliness and poor mental well being.
Skills Development : Organising and participating in hte various events the group runs requires planning, organisation and co-ordintion skills. Group members, volunteers and participants can develop and strengthen these skills, potentially leading to increased employability.
Wellbeing Benefits : Engaging in social activities and spending time with others has been shown to have positive effects on both physical and mental wellbeing. This can reduce stress, anxiety and low mood and encourages exercise leading to overall increased wellbeing.
Education and learning Opportunities : Day trips can be educational, providingparticipants with new experiences and learning opportunities. This is especially valuable for children, but can be benefivial for people of all ages.
Positive Role Modelling : Organisers and volunteers with hte Friends of Redburn can serve as positive role models for participants locally, demonstrating the value of community engagement and giving back to the local community.
Improved Quality of Life : By providing free and low cost activities the participants who attend the weekly community lunches have stated that they defintely help alleviate financial stresses and burdrens faced by them. This elps improve the overall quality of life for those who take part.
Long Term Impact on Poverty : While events and day trips may not directly address the root causes of poverty, they can contribute to breaking he cycle by providing support, resources and opportunities for personal and community growth.
Increased Civic Engagement : Participation in comunity events can lead to the local community working together, encouraging peopel to take an active interest in the wellbeing, development ad ownership of their local environment.
Overall, providing family fun events and day trips can have a wide range of positive effects on individuals and the whole community, contributing to a more vibrant, inclusive and thriving local environment.

North Ayrshire Carers Centre - Community Carousel for unpaid carers.

This project aims to create a community carousel in partnership with HSCP Carers Team, Youth Services, and KA Leisure to create opportunities within each locality. This will provide a family respite opportunity for unpaid carers accessing the service, or for individuals who may require support in benefit advice, education support, funding, carer support plans or a listening ear as we understand how demanding being an unpaid carer can be. This project will initially be rolled out in seldom-heard communities such as Garnock Valley and North Coast where we aim to provide support within our capacity to unpaid carers along with a fun day out for families to access activities and information based on their needs and abilities. This project will provide an opportunity to tackle isolation, food poverty, and fuel poverty by giving carers a safe, warm space to use for the day where they can bring their cared for, and also access a meal and refreshments along with the company of Carers Centre staff and partners.

The children at St Luke's EYC have access to outdoors for most of the day. This is free flow where children choose to go out. The parent council would like to help pay for the replacement of waterproof suits and be able to provide wellies for all the children. This supports the cost of the school day as parents will not be asked to provide suits or wellies for their child to access the outdoors. Health and well-being is very important and by allowing children to be outdoors supports their mental health and physical development.

Arran Dogs

We are keen to enhance the dog owning experience on the island by providing agility training for all ages and abilities. This will help with social isolation (group work), build confidence by helping people train their dogs, help with physical exercise and coordination. This is in addition to our current work with owners, puppies and older dogs. Some of our members are mobility impaired, elderly and live alone. We have Kennel Club trainers from mainland North Ayrshire who regularly assist us.
The funding would be spent as follows:-

Improving accessibility within Cumbrae Community Garden

We’re planning to pave round 4 raised beds in Cumbrae Community Garden to make access easier for people with restricted mobility, such as wheelchair/mobility scooter users or those needing walking aids. The Community Garden has a positive impact on health and well-being, not only for plot-holders but for the wider community who can access the peaceful outdoor environment of the Garden and take part in organised social events. This project will encourage more participation and improve community cohesion by improving access for people with a range of mobility needs and will help us promote community growing within a more vulnerable group.
The project costs exceed the PB grant limit but we have funding in place from the National Lottery which will meet the balance.
