Vennel Friends Discovery Group

Investment project code: 374

Estimated Price

£1,000

Summary

The Vennel Friends Discovery Group meet weekly in the Vennel Gardens Community Engagement Hub and helps older people come together to meet new people and try a whole host of activities.

Our group is open to anyone over the age of 50.  We participate in a wide range of activities that promote the health and wellbeing of our group members. The group provides a safe and welcoming place for older people to connect socially which helps to combat loneliness and isolation.

We are applying for funding to enable our group members to experience the positive mental health and social benefits of going to the theatre and having afternoon tea in Glasgow.

Description

We are applying for funding to enable our group members to plan and experience a trip to the theatre and afternoon tea up in Glasgow in the new year.

Social activities such as this can have a genuinely positive impact of the health and wellbeing of older people.  This is especially true in the winter months when the cost of living and social isolation can have a significantly negative impact on people’s lives, especially for older members of the community.  This would be an opportunity for our group members to experience a special outing which many would not be able to access independently due challenges faced through physical health and mental wellbeing.

To enable us to do this we would use any funding we received for:

Transport to Glasgow: £160

Theatre tickets: £560

Afternoon Tea: £280

Location: The Vennel Friends Discovery Group has been running on a weekly basis in the Vennel Gardens Community Engagement Hub since May 2023 and we currently have 12 registered members, all of whom are working towards their Bronze Discovery Award. To gain the Discovery Award group members engage in new hobbies, physical activities, go on trips to new places and pursue volunteering opportunities within the local community.
