Summary

Corsehill Retirement Club meet weekly throughout the year and help older people come together to enjoy many activities, including celebrating national events and holidays. We are a club which is open to anyone over 55 and retired from employment. We have educational activities, along with games and fun activities. This ensures that older people are not isolated, helping to combat loneliness and keeping them connected to their communities. One of the events particularly enjoyed by the members is celebrating Burns Day, with haggis, neeps and tatties, speeches and toasting the Bard with a dram, usually involving a piper and a wee dance. We are looking for funding to help us put this event on and try to have as many people as want to come. This funding would be used to pay for the meals, toasts, and venue. We also need a new laptop, which helps with the functioning of the club and allows our older members have access to the internet if required, keeping them connected with modern day living. We rely on our weekly fees to pay for events, etc so cannot manage to do many in the year. Additional funding will help to allow us to celebrate Burns Day.

Description

We are looking for funding to allow our members to celebrate Burns Day and also enable us to buy a new laptop. We are a club for retired people over 55 and we have a number of members who are over 80. This age group experience social isloation and for many this past year has seen them struggling with the cost of living. Coming to the club gives them the opportunity to engage with other people in a sociable way and gives them something to look forward to each week. It also means that we can look out for one another and ensure that especially members who live alone are having someone looking after their health and wellbeing. Throughout the year we try to celebrate national days and this usually involves food and entertainment. Again ensuring that members can look forward to a nice day out and a meal.

We would also like to buy a new laptop, which we use for our activities, such as quizzes, bingo and keep records of our budget, etc. We can also use it for research if required on certain topics and keeps us connected to the wider world. We can use it to access the internet if required by any member, who struggles with computers.

To do this we would use any funding we received for:

Burns Supper, including food, toasts, speaker and hall hire - £774

Laptop - £380 (we would use our funds for the additional £124

Location: We are a constituted club, who meet weekly throughout the year. We are open to anyone over 55 year of age and who has retired from employment. We set a syllabus each year of activities which is fully discussed with our members. We try to have a mixture of educational and social activities and have speakers joining us on many different topics which would be of interest to older people, such as we recently had Energy Scotland visit to assist members with fuel costs and how to keep warm. . We encourage a culture where we care for each other and our wellbeing. We are always on the lookout for new members to keep our club ongoing. We currently have approx 60 members.
