Garnock Rugby Club Junior Tour
Summary
We are applying for funding for the Garnock Rugby Club Junior Tour. A youth rugby tour is a clear example of community action because it immobilises local people, develops young citizens, promotes inclusion, strengthens community identity and represents the area beyond its borders. It delivers lasting social value that extends far beyond the sport itself. Funding would go a long way to offset one of our biggest costs, which is transport.
Description
Garnock Rugby Club Junior Section have over 100 members, and 20 coaches who are all volunteers. Last year was our first junior tour in several years, and it was a great success. Funding towards transport for the junior tour would massively help as there are many costs from food, activities, transport and accomodation and this would help keeping family contribution low. Funding transport is one of the most impactful ways to support a youth tour because it removes barriers, increases inclusion, and strengthens the community outcomes that justify the tour in the first place. Providing organised group transport strengthens safeguarding and wellbeing. Travelling together under coach supervision ensures consistent safety standards, reduces risk, and allows coaches and volunteers to maintain appropriate oversight throughout the journey. The next tour (May/June 2027) we are hoping to take 60+ kids and 10 coaches (all volunteers) to Carlisle. The tour would include team activities and playing of games against other teams. Funding would allow our coaches and families to help the young people in their local community.
A youth rugby tour offers benefits for beyond the matches themselves such as :
Improved rugby skills
Stronger Team Work
Greater confidence
Cultural awareness
New friendships
Motivation and enjoyment
A tour can support players sporting, social and personal development. Physical health benefits may be obvious such as exercising, getting outdoors and mental health benefits include having a sense of belonging, a purpose and increased confidence. The tour would reduce isolation, improve physical and mental health and is community-led action that brings people together to help one another improve and develop.
Funding applied form £1000 towards transport costs for travelling to the tour.
