Watering the Garden

Summary

Wee Growers is a family gardening group, with gardeners from tiny tots to their grannies. We'd like to buy some new, size appropriate tools and storage equipment to expand our activities in the next season.

Description

Wee Growers is a family gardening group, made up of babies, toddlers and children with their parents and grandparents coming together with ACLI volunteers to grow food and flowers year-round. We meet every Saturday morning in the ACLI hub field whatever the weather. The children engage in all aspects of the garden and growing process.

We would like to buy more child sized wheelbarrows, toddler sized wheelbarrows, as well as refresh the children's gardening tools and watering cans. The group would also benefit from various sized flexi tubs, a garden storage box, storage baskets and seeds for the upcoming year.

This will massively benefit the children who attend Wee Growers, allowing them to better engage in many of the activities throughout the year. The children are enthusiastic learners and thoroughly enjoy getting involved in all aspects of the garden, from making paths through the garden with woodchip to digging up the tatties. These tools will help them be as involved as possible and increase their feelings of independence and participation.

Wee Growers offers families a wonderful opportunity to meet outdoor, whatever the weather and engage in meaningful activities together. The children are not only learning about teamwork but also gaining hands on experience of where their food comes from. The group also offers parents a chance to connect with each other, form friendships and build a supportive community. We aim to encourage families to be outdoors year-round, experiencing the land and reaping the physical and mental benefits of spending time in green spaces. The group is entirely volunteer ran, with parents and ACLI volunteers working together to co-create enriching and engaging activities week after week.
