Summary

We have applied to help us fund website development and social media support so that we can increase listeners across the North Coast for the volunteer led Largs Community Radio station. The station brings people together and gives voice to Largs and the wider community. As we increase our reach we would also attract additional presenters from the area, and all of that would encourage new advertisers so that we would meet our aim of being self funding within 2 years.

Description

Largs Radio was set up in 2025 to give voice to Largs and surrounding areas, following other community radio stations which create opportunity to all people in the area to meet, share life stories,  create and connect through music and conversations and are cross- demographic, fully representing the area and help people share skills (across IT and presenting) and create a strong community spirit. Largs Radio was seed funded by Largs Community Development Trust and is located in their community building. The station is an example of community action- a small group of volunteers with the aim and ambitions to improve their local area and in doing so, bring people from across the area together which reduces isolation and improves mental health across all age groups. At the moment out youngest volunteer is 21, and eldest interest is from an 84 year old. This is a project owned locally by people who want to increase community pride in our people, stories and businesses. With suport for social media and website development we would have a wider reach from Cumbrae to Kilbirnie and West Kilbride to Wemyss Bay. Ideally we would move to digital broadcasting which would encourage both an increase in listenership and in advertising revenue. As we grow, we increase our content, and our listenership and diversity of our presenters, we become even more attractive to advertisers, helping us to be community innovators by becoming self funding. In addition our content creates a strong sense of place and is inclusive, accessible and kind to reflect the kind of community where everyone can thrive. Our content includes 'Care in Largs' where we focus on local volunteer led organisations to share their stories; we have 'Wellbeing Wednesday' where we share information on health and wellbeing, 'Green Largs' where we share about energy, recycling, gardening etc; and we have a whats on where we share about all the weekly activities run in and by the community, as well as history and outdoor activities. We request £1,000 towards our costs - £350 towards improving the website so we can link listeners directly to the studio, and sell some branded merchandising in a print on demand model; and £650 for approx 30 hours of social media support which would help promote a campaign in the early part of 2027 to attract more listeners, volunteers and subsequently advertisers; helping us with visibility and longer tem sustainability.
