Summary

We are looking to build on the success of our after school tennis clubs and the ‘Summer of Tennis’ camps to offer free tennis camps for children and young people on Arran over the Easter holidays.

Description

Over the summer holidays, children and young people from across Arran benefited from free tennis opportunities following the opening of three newly refurbished courts in Brodick and a ‘Summer of Tennis’ initiative supported by government funding and Tennis Scotland.

Free camps were delivered for children aged 5–8, 9–11 and 12+, alongside a girls-only camp encouraging teenage girls to participate. Most camps were oversubscribed and feedback from children and parents was overwhelmingly positive, demonstrating strong demand for accessible local sporting opportunities.

We would like to build on this success and continue access to tennis on Arran by providing further free tennis camps during the Easter holidays, from Monday 29 March to Friday 9 April 2027.

Funding will cover qualified coaches to deliver the camps (20 hours of face-to-face delivery and 4 hours of session planning by the lead coach for each of the camps with the hourly rate determined by their qualifications in line with LTA guidance), ensuring children can participate regardless of their family’s financial circumstances.   This breaksdown as follows:

5-8 years old camps

6 x Level 2 lead coach @£25/hour = £150

5 x Level 1 assistant @ £15/hour = £75

9-11 years old camps

6 x Level 2 lead coach @£25/hour = £150

5 x Level 2 coach @£25 = £125

12+ year old camps

6 x Level 2 lead oach @£25/hour = £150

5 x Level 2 coach @£25 = £125

Girls only camp

6 x Level 2 lead coach @£25/hour = £150

5 x Level 1 assistant @£15/hour = £75

TOTAL = £1000

The project supports the Community Action theme by bringing children and young people together, reducing isolation, encouraging positive social connections, and promoting physical and mental wellbeing. It will also reduce financial pressures on families by providing free activities during the school holidays.

The project will build confidence, develop sporting skills and encourage children and young people to remain active and engaged in their community.
