Dykesmains Parent Council "Try Something New" - Free After-School Experiences
Summary
A free "Try Something New" programme offering a range of after-school activities that remove financial barriers and give children access to fun, inclusive new experiences.
Description
"Try Something New" would be a free after-school programme run by Dykesmains Primary School Parent Council, giving pupils the opportunity to take part in a variety of activities they may not otherwise be able to access.
Funding will allow us to bring in external providers to deliver taster sessions such as drumming, circus skills, arts and crafts, science and STEM workshops, sports, yoga and wellbeing activities (actual activities to be confirmed). By offering a range of experiences, children can discover new interests, build confidence and develop new skills in a fun and supportive environment.
All sessions will be provided free of charge to remove financial barriers and ensure opportunities are accessible to all pupils.
Why is the Project Needed?
Many extracurricular activities come with costs that can be difficult for families to meet. As a result, some children miss out on opportunities to explore new interests, develop talents and take part in enriching experiences outside the classroom.
This project will provide free access to a range of activities, ensuring every child has the chance to try something new regardless of their family's financial circumstances.
Community Action
This project supports children and families by removing financial barriers to participation and providing positive after-school activities that promote wellbeing, confidence, inclusion and social connection.
Community Innovation
Rather than focusing on a single club or activity, the programme will offer a variety of taster sessions, allowing children to explore different interests and helping identify opportunities that could be developed further in the future.
Expected Benefits
- Increased confidence and self-esteem.
- Improved wellbeing and social skills.
- Access to new experiences and opportunities.
- Development of new interests and talents.
- Reduced barriers to extracurricular participation.
- Greater inclusion for children who may otherwise miss out.
Through Try Something New, Dykesmains Primary School Parent Council will provide free, inclusive after-school experiences that broaden horizons, build confidence and give children the opportunity to discover activities they may not otherwise have the chance to try. This project will help ensure that cost is not a barrier to participation and that every child has the opportunity to benefit from new experiences.
Breakdown of Cost:
Approx 6 sessions @ £150 each covering venue hire, trainer hire and any required equipment and £100 for some refreshments for the children over all of the events.
