Our Parent Council runs three discos outside the school day each year - Halloween, Valentine’s and a special P7 Leavers’ Disco. We’re applying for £1,000 towards the cost of running these events and helping us keep them affordable for our families.

Based on last year’s costs, our Halloween Disco costs around £300, including £125 for a DJ, £55 for sweet cones, £60 for drinks, £29 for prizes and around £30 for decorations. Our Valentine’s Disco costs around £220, including £130 for a DJ and around £90 for refreshments and decorations.

Our P7 Leavers’ Disco is a bigger event and cost around £720 last year. This included £40 for venue hire, £350 for an events company providing entertainment including a photo booth, £120 for a buffet, £30 for drinks and around £180 for leavers’ gifts and decorations.

Together, these events cost around £1,240 to run. We charge a small ticket price for our Halloween and Valentine’s discos, but want to keep this as affordable as possible so that cost isn’t a barrier to children being able to attend.

For some of our children, opportunities to attend parties, clubs and other social activities outside school can be limited, whether because of cost, additional support needs or other circumstances. Holding these events outside school hours, with their friends and familiar adults around them, gives children the opportunity to enjoy experiences they may not otherwise have.

The £1,000 funding would go directly towards the costs of providing these three events, with ticket income and Parent Council fundraising contributing towards any remaining costs.

A school disco might seem like a small thing, but for some children it can be one of the few opportunities they have to enjoy a night like this with their friends. We want to make sure as many of our children as possible get that chance.
