Summary

We are looking to provide a fun filled and participatory introduction to Gaelic sessions, / in 5 libraries ( one per day)across North Ayrshire as part of the national Seachd Na Gaidhlig week in February 2027, involving teaching useful Gaelic phrases and introductory words, and inviting people to play Gaelic scrabble( we will bring dictionaries to help " cheat" or enjoy if its your first time)

Description

Gaelic is growing in North Ayrshire, but presently lacks spaces, and resources,  to meet and use that language, and/or to get an introduction into the language if you are new to it.

We are seeking funding aiming to bridge that gap, and to have fun while doing so. We use games,( we encourage using dictionaries) and books, and other written sheets  to promote phrases, We do this while enjoying baked goods, tea and coffee. This is the beginning of our project, and while we are growing ( presently 14 members) , over the next few years, we are looking to deliver on what can be achived within the best means possible.

Our group has already brought forward people with little bits of the language, some older residents, to enjoy a chat with fellow learners/speakers, alongside new people looking to learn. We aim to see how the whole area feeels about this

Taking this forward will give The Gaelic Langauge , in North Ayrshire,  a national profile, with the event being advertised nationally, and assisting the local development of the language presently being undertaken, and its also good fun for those attending, with an opportunity to meet fellow learners( we aim to use this to develope cafes across the area, where we see interest growing)

We ALSO KNOW ALL  the best gaelic words( just ask us)

If we are succesful with the funding , we will begin liaising with the chosen libraries in Stevenston ( home base), kilwinning, the garnock valley, irvine and largs to begin advertising the events week.

We will, as part of this project be laising with, and working in parternship ,with the library teams to ensure the resources are available to the public going forward, and to take feedback as to their usage.
