Summary

We are a group of over 50's who have found friendship, confidence and belonging through discovery. We want to make memories, try new experiences and stay active, connected and included.

Description

We are the Discovery Group, a group of adults aged 50+ who came to work towards our Discovery Awards.  What started as a chance to learn and achieve something new has become much more important to us.  We have made real friendships, supported each other through life's ups and downs and built a group where everyone feels welcomed and valued.

We would like funding to help us enjoy new experiences together that some of us may not otherwise have the opportunity to take part in.  We have chosen the activities ourselves because they reflect what matters to us as a group.

Isle of Arran Day Trip

We would love a day together on Arran.  It would give us the chance to get out, explore somewhere different and make memories together.  For some of us, cost or personal circumstances can make days like this difficult, so having the opportunity as a group would mean a lot.

Burns Supper

We would like to hold our own Burns Supper where we can enjoy good food, Scottish traditions, stories and, most importantly, each other's company.  It would be another way of bringing everyone together and making sure everyone feels part of something.

Discovery Legacy Craft Project

We want to create something together than represents our discovery journey.  Each of us has our own story, achievements and memories from the group, and we would like to bring these together in one creative piece that we can be proud of and leave as our legacy.

Christmas Celebration

Christmas can be a lonely time, especially as we get older and circumstances change.  We want to make sure everyone in our group has somewhere they feel included.  Our celebration would be about friendship, laughter, togetherness and making sure nobody feels forgotten.

Theatre Experience

Some of us have never had the opportunity to go to the theatre.  We would love to experience this together.  Trying something new as a group gives us confidence and means nobody has to feel nervous about going somewhere unfamiliar on their own.

I confirm that I will provide any additional information requested to complete my application by the application deadline.

We would like to give a breakdown of what we would spend our funding on. Arran day trip. £350 The contributions would be ferry travel, food and/or activity’s. The benefits would give us the opportunity to travel together and experience somewhere different. We feel this would strengthen our friendships. For some members cost or confidence can make trips difficult so doing it together gives us an opportunity to enjoy this. The benefits to us provides access to arts and culture whilst creating a shared social experience and encouraging us to try and push some of us out our comfort zone in a social context. Christmas Celebration £150 This would work towards food, refreshments, entertainment and small activity costs. The benefits provide us with a focus to work on a provided an inclusive activity celebration that we can take part in regardless of some of our circumstances. We also want to recognise our achievements developed throughout the year. Burns supper £150 We will buy food, refreshments, decor and burns themed activities. This brings us all together to celebrate our culture and heritage and make sure all can be included.
