Largs Pickleball for under 18s
Summary
Establish a regular Pickleball programme for Largs Academy pupils to encourage physical activity, confidence, teamwork and positive social connection. The school already has an indoor court marked out on campus, making it an ideal location for sessions. Volunteers are in place to run the club after school; the only barrier is access to equipment and initial professional coaching.
Description
What the Project Will Do
• Provide indoor Pickleball paddles, balls and a portable net for use on the school campus.
• Deliver two one‑hour professional coaching sessions to introduce pupils to the sport and build core skills.
• Establish a volunteer‑led after‑school Pickleball club.
• Create a fun, competitive Pickleball league to encourage regular participation and teamwork.
Pickleball is accessible, low‑impact and suitable for all fitness levels, making it ideal for young people who may not participate in traditional sports. It supports physical health, mental wellbeing and positive social interaction — all priorities for the school community.
Breakdown of Project Costs (Total: £1,000)
• £540 – Indoor paddles (12 mid‑range paddles)
• £26 – Indoor balls (2 × packs of 6)
• £66 – Portable indoor net
• £200 – Professional coaching (two 1‑hour sessions)
• £168 – Contingency for storage bag, replacement balls, grip tape and wear‑and‑tear + other startup costs (eg PVG certification for volunteers)
This project is simple, sustainable and directly benefits pupils by expanding accessible sports opportunities outside the school day..
This project will also facilitate primary school to academy transition programmes
