Summary

Our project aims to provide essential weather-protection for our two youth football teams, ensuring players can continue training and playing safely throughout the winter months. By helping shield children from cold, wet, and challenging weather conditions, we will create a more comfortable and enjoyable environment that supports regular participation, promotes wellbeing, and reduces the impact of seasonal weather on attendance.

Ready for the Elements: Weather-Proofing and Protecting Our Kids

AC Irvine Boys Club 2014 operates two youth football teams, Athletico and Dynamo, providing regular opportunities for children aged 11-13 to participate in sport, develop friendships, improve their physical and mental wellbeing, and be active members of their local community. Our project aims to purchase essential winter weather protection equipment that will allow our players to continue training and playing safely during the challenging autumn and winter months.

Many of our training sessions and matches take place outdoors in exposed conditions, where cold temperatures, rain and wind can make participation difficult for young players. The funding will be used to provide weather-resistant equipment and resources that help protect our players, volunteers and coaches from the elements, ensuring football remains accessible throughout the season.

The project directly supports Community Action by promoting physical and mental health, reducing barriers to participation, and encouraging children to remain active and connected with their peers during the darker winter months. Football provides a positive outlet for young people, helping build confidence, resilience, teamwork and social connections while reducing isolation.

The project will benefit 35 local children across our two teams, their families, and the wider community. By ensuring young people can continue to take part regardless of the weather, we will increase attendance, improve wellbeing, and create a safe, inclusive environment where every child has the opportunity to enjoy sport and remain engaged in positive community activities throughout the year.

The equipment will be purchased and in use immediately following any grant award and all funding would be fully spent within the required 12-month period.

  • Proposed on behalf of: AC Irvine Boys Club 2014's is a grassroots youth football team providing opportunities for children to participate in sport within a safe, inclusive and supportive environment. We currently have 35 players across two 11-a-side teams, Athletico and Dynamo, who train twice a week and compete in the Ayrshire Youth Football League on Saturdays. Our club is run entirely by dedicated volunteers who are committed to helping young people develop both on and off the football pitch. We focus on creating an inclusive environment where every child is welcome, regardless of ability, and where players can build confidence, improve physical fitness, develop teamwork skills and form lasting friendships. We work closely with families across Irvine and the surrounding areas, including Beith, Ardrossan, Saltcoats and Stevenston, ensuring local children have access to regular, affordable sporting opportunities. As a not-for-profit organisation, any funds raised are reinvested directly into supporting our players, improving facilities, purchasing equipment and reducing barriers to participation. Our aim is to help young people stay active, healthy and engaged within their community while promoting positive values such as respect, commitment, sportsmanship and teamwork. Through football, we provide a positive outlet that supports both physical and mental wellbeing and helps create a strong sense of belonging for our players and their families.
  • Location: This project will primarily benefit children and families within Irvine, where the majority of our players live and where most of our football activities take place. However, AC Irvine Boys Club 2014 serves a wider local community, with players also travelling from Beith, Ardrossan, Saltcoats and Stevenston to train and play as part of our Athletico and Dynamo teams.
