Description
The D.I.S.C. (Determination, independence, Strive, Confidence) Award is a group of adults who meet weekly on a Wednesday morning in Ardrossan. Our group is made up of individuals who are looking to be reintegrated back into the community having spent time in the criminal justice system. The group started off as a cooking group but has now developed into structured sessions through an adaptation of the over 50's Discovery Award Group. We have recently constituted the group are looking forward to being able to provide more opportunities to its members.
We come from all backgrounds and walk of life, but we have a common goal, a determination to gain independance, to strive for success both in the group and in our personal lives and build our confidence in learning new skills, making meaningful connections and building our confidence. The DISC Award is an adaptation of the over 50's Discovery Award where we will try new things through the "hobbies & interestes" section, give back to the local community through "service in the community" and explore new people and places through our "journey of discovery".
We would love to go on quarterly trips as part of our award, to give us the opportunity to explore new places and cultures.
Depending on circumstances, not everyone is in the habit of eating a nutritional breakfast. We would love to be able to offer a small bite to eat at the start of our sessions to make sure everyones starting off with a full tummy.
As the group progresses, we would like to be able to organise events, organise training, communicate more professionally with email and MS word and be able to offer group users who do not have a computer at home the use to answer important emails or job search. This has been hard without having a laptop available during group time.
We as a group are kindly requesting £1000 for the following:
Laptop with MS package - £500
Funding for 3 group trips - £300
Breakfast items for 1 year (Bread, tea/coffee, milk, butter - £200
