Creative, Achievement and science Activities for young scouts
Summary
purchase of new art equipment for the entire scout group, purchase of annual achievement badges and costs associated with a science centre overnight camp
Description
63rd Ayrshire (Kilbirnie) Scout Group provides young people in the kilbirnie and surrounding community wit through variedh opportunities to develop practical skills, confidence, team work and independence through a varied programme of Scouting activities.
The group is committed to ensuring that all young people, regardless of their families financial circumstances, are able to participate fully in activities and receive recognition for their achievements..
We are seeking £1000 from North Ayrshire Council's Participatory Budgeting Fund 2026 to support three important areas of our programme :
1) purchase of new and improved arts and craft equipment for use by our young members.
2)purchase of thhe achievement and activity badges earned by our young members throughout the year.
3) contribution towards a special science centre camp and activity programme at the Glasgow Science Centre in November 2026.
This funding will directly benefit our young people by providing themwith new opportunities to learn, create, achieve and participate in experiences which may be otherwise difficult for the group to fund..
A proportion of the funding will allow us to purchase new arts and craft equipment for our members. Creative activities are an important part of our programme, helping young people develop their imaginations, confidence, fine motor skills and ability to work independently and also as part of a team.
New equipment will a to participate in a special scienced based overnight campllow us to offer a wider range of activities and ensure that our exisiting resources can be replaced and replenished when required. Importantly the equipment will be available for repeated use by members across the year, meaning that the benefit of the investment will continue long after the initial funding has been spent.
Another important part of the funding will be used to purchase thae various achievement and activity badges earned by our young people.
providing badges are an important part of scouting. They recognise individual effort, participation, learning and achievement and give young peoplea tangible reminder of the skills and experiences they have gained.Providing badges to every young person who earns them ensures that their achievement is recognised equally, without familieshaving to meet that additional cost.
Our Cub Pack is also planning to participate in a science based overnight camp activity at the Glasgow Science Centre in November which would involve 20 of our young people. The total cost for the science centre activity is expected to be £700.
The activity will provide our young people with an exciting opportunity to engage with science, technology and practical learning in an environment that is both educational and enjoyable. For many of our members, this will provide access to experiences and learning opportunities outside their normal scouting programme. it will encourage curiosity, problem solving and an interest in science while also developing teamwork, independence and confidence.A contribution from the participatory budgeting fund would help ensure that the cost of this activity does not become a barrier to participation for our young people or their families.
Arts and Craft Equipment -£200
Achievement & Activity badges -£100
Science Centre Camp - £700
TOTAL REQUESTED - £1000
This funding will drectly benefit the young people who attend the 63rd Ayrshire (Kilbirnie) Scout Group, with approx 20 young people benefitting directly from the planned science centre activity. The arts and crafts equipment and achievement badges will benefit members throughout the year and will provide a lasting benefit to the wider group..
As a voluntary community organisation we rely heavily on fundraising, subscriptions and the support of our local community to provide activities for our young people. The cost of equipment, badges, camps and educational activities can programme quickly become significant. A £1000 grant would therefore make a substantial difference to our ability to provide a varied and inclusive programme.
We believe this application represents a strong investment in the young people of Kilbirnie, helping them to learn new skills, develop confidence, experience new opportunities and achieve their full potential.
