Summary

Bridgend Cancer Support Group project is to maintain good well being for all the members of the group. Living with cancer and receiving treatment or being in remission brings its challenges and Bridgend Cancer Support Group would like to ask for funds to help alleviate those struggles. We would like to ask for funds to assist our group to go to the theatre or a day trip by bus to a Scottish resort.

Description

Bridgend Cancer Support Group is made up of members of the local and surrounding communities who are going through cancer treatment or are currently in remission.  Our group currently consists of 15 members, and to us, a good well being is very important to us.  Our group offers tpeople that have had their lives affected by cancer he opportunity to talk to like-minded people that have walked the journey they are currently on and to receive support when it is needed most.

Our group began in 2013 and have been meeting once a month since it started.  We look forward to our catch ups, and we often welcome in new members and say goodbye to old friends who have succumbed to their illness.

In order to maintain a good sense of well being, we would like to be considered for the full amount of the grant to allow the members to have a day trip to a local Scottish resort, such as Culzean Castle or a theatre trip to see a show in Glasgow and to have a lovely meal thereafter to round off a perfect day.  Due to the number of members we have, it is essential that a means of transport is factored in when arranging a day trip as two of our members have mobility issues and are unable to walk even a short distance.

Costings

A typical theatre trip would cost the following;

A hired bus from Kilbirnie to Glasgow for 16 members = £200

Tickets for the theatre - £40 X 16 = £640

Meal after the theatre - £30 X 16 = £480

Total Cost = £1,320

I understand that the maximum amount that can be granted is £1000, any shortfall we incur will be met by the group.

Bridgend Cancer Support Group has helped so many people during their cancer journey, it is a group that no-one wants to be a member of, however, by offering the members the chance of a day out and to spend time with likeminded others not only benefits the members, but it promotes the support group as the local communities can see from our social media page photos of our trips away and the fun we can still have together.
