Largs Sail Training Association is seeking £975 to support three teenagers from North Ayrshire to qualify as Dinghy Instructors, creating a new generation of young instructors who will use their skills to help other young people learn to sail. The project will invest £325 in the training of each teenager. Once qualified, they will use their new skills within Largs Sail Training Association, helping children and young people develop sailing skills creating a lasting legacy.Project Description
Young Instructors, More Young Sailors will create a pathway for three teenagers living in North Ayrshire to progress from young sailors to qualified Dinghy Instructors with Largs Sail Training Association.
We are seeking £975 to fund their instructor training.

The project has been designed to create benefits which extend beyond the three young people receiving the initial training.
Once qualified, the three teenagers will become part of the Association’s instructor capacity and will use their new skills to help teach other children and young people to sail. This creates a simple multiplier effect. Community funding develops three young people, who then use what they have learned to develop many more.
The proposal strongly reflects the Community Action theme of helping people to help others in their local area. The Community PB guidance specifically includes community-led action which brings people together to help one another.
For the three young people, gaining their Dinghy Instructor qualification represents an important step in their personal development. They will develop leadership, communication, teamwork, decision-making and practical instructional skills. They will also gain experience of taking responsibility for supporting younger and less experienced sailors.
The qualification and practical experience will strengthen their CVs and provide evidence of skills relevant to future education, volunteering and employment. For young people interested in sailing, sport, outdoor education, recreation or instruction, it also provides a foundation on which they can continue to develop.
For Largs Sail Training Association, the project develops young instructors from within the local community. This helps build the Association’s capacity to provide sailing opportunities for future groups of young people.
For the wider community, the investment creates a lasting resource. The benefit does not end when the three teenagers complete their training. Their qualification stays with them and the skills they gain can be used repeatedly to help others learn to sail.
The project therefore represents strong value for money. An investment of £975 creates three qualified young instructors while establishing the potential for many more young people to benefit from their skills over subsequent sailing seasons.
At its heart, Young Instructors, More Young Sailors is about young people helping young people. It gives three North Ayrshire teenagers an opportunity to progress while asking them to use that opportunity to create opportunities for others.
