The Ayrshire Flyers Short Track Speedskating Club are a registered charity and sporting team based at Auchenharvie Leisure Centre, who support people of all ages and backgrounds to improve their health and wellbeing and participate in the fastest self-propelled sport in the world. The club has been coached by and has been responsible for high performing Olympians, and beginner skaters at the same time, creating an environment in which all can be their best.

In recent years there has been a huge decrease in the facilities available to engage in such sports, with rising energy costs contributing to many rinks closing across the United Kingdom.

Ayrshire Flyers operate in the Three Towns area, one with the highest levels of child poverty in Ayrshire. The club provide a fun means of being fit and healthy, teaches discipline and focus, whilst fostering a sense of belonging. Competition, and the need for it are of paramount importance in sport, and give participants and athletes the opportunity to progress and see their development as individuals and as part of a team. It is proposed that the grant would be used to help support skaters from the club to travel to competitions and help to host competitions at Auchenharvie Leisure Centre to boost the profile of the sport to help this become more accessible to all in the local area. Money would be split evening, £500 to help support our younger skaters to attend competitions further afield to broaden their life and race experience, and £500 towards planning and implementing either a national competition or camp to grow and support grassroots ice sports in the local area, and in doing so strengthen the sport for the future in Scotland and the UK.
