Douglas Park Biodiversity and Community Nature Restoration Project
Summary
The project will focus on restoration of the Douglas Park pond which, due to other priorities, has been somewhat neglected.
Description
The work will restore the pond to a healthy freshwater habitat by removing accumulated silt where necessary, improving water quality, creating shallow wildlife margins, encouraging amphibians, insects and aquatic wildlife, removing invasive vegetation, introducing appropriate native wetland plants, involving local volunteers, providing opportunities for schools and younger people and improving public understanding of the parks natural heritage.
The majority of the work will be undertaken by local volunteers the anticipated costs are as follows;
External local contractors - £800 (includes materials and labour for restoration of pond base and brickwork)
Plants - £500 (includes pond cleaning materials, pond plants and pond snails)
The plan is to do the project in 2027
The park is a public park and is open at all times
We estimate the total cost of the project to be circa £1300 however we have only asked for £949 because we also asked Scottish Forestry - Central Scotland Conservancy for a grant but they have just told us that they have no more funds available.
