Project Description

North Ayrshire Tandem Cycling (NATC) is a local group set up in August 2023 to allow Vision Impaired, ( Vi ) people to enjoy cycling with the support of a fully sighted pilot. We currently have 22 Members in total, 10 of which who are visually impaired. We enjoy weekly organised outings. Our main purpose is to get as many Vi's out of Isolation as possible and out enjoying the fresh air, mixing with the local community. North Ayrshire Tandem Cycling has been proactive in various Family Open Days with several Community projects in and around our Local Community, supplying a “Have A Go on a Tandem” session. These sessions have proven to be successful and we would like to expand this to be more accessible, rather than just to Community Open Days.Tandem bikes are an expensive commodity to upkeep, costs for items such as Tyres, Tubes, Chains that have to be renewed annually, are a constant drain on our limited resources.

Our Tandems have to be given a full service every year to ensure they are safe to ride for our Vision Impaired members, and especialy if members of the community are using them during local events.

We currently have 4 E-assist Tandems that are in need of Service

The average cost to service an E-Assist Tandem Bike is approx £120 + parts.

Tubes @...£6.62 x 14 = £92.68

Chains @...£19.99 x 8 = £ 159.92
