Project Summary
We are a community under 14s football team run entirely by volunteers, with players from Largs, Fairlie, West Kilbride and the surrounding areas. Our aim is to provide a safe, welcoming and enjoyable environment where children can develop their football skills, build confidence and make friends.Project Description
Our team started with a small group of children and a few parent volunteers who agreed to become novice football coaches.
Since then, the team has grown from strength to strength and we now train twice a week and play games in the local AYFL league at weekends with matches from Largs down as far as Dumfries & Galloway. We are supported by a dedicated group of volunteer parents who help in all weathers, whether coaching, providing transport to games, setting up equipment, cheering from the sidelines, administering first aid or carrying out all the other jobs required to keep the team running.
One of the challenges we face, particularly during the winter months, is the unpredictable west coast weather. Players, coaches and spectators can spend several hours at the football pitch during training and match days, often exposed to heavy rain and strong winds. We would like to purchase a high-strength gazebo which can provide a sheltered area for our players, coaches, parents and visiting spectators.
The gazebo would also allow us to provide hot drinks and snacks to parents and visitors during matches and tournaments. This would help create a more welcoming environment around our games and provide an opportunity to raise small amounts of additional income to put back into the team and help with the ongoing costs of equipment and facilities.
As with many local volunteer-run groups, funding is always a significant issue. We try to keep fees for parents as low as possible, while the majority of our income is used to cover training and match facilities, equipment and other essential running costs. This leaves very little available for larger items that would improve the experience for our players and spectators.
We have identified a suitable high-strength gazebo at a total cost of £726.10. It would be a valuable long-term addition to our equipment and would be used throughout the football season for training sessions, league matches, tournaments and other community events.
Any help you were able to offer towards the purchase of the gazebo would be hugely appreciated by our players, coaches, parents and visiting teams. It would provide much-needed shelter from the Scottish weather while also helping us create a more welcoming and enjoyable environment for everyone involved with our club.
