Project Summary

North Ayrshire Active Girls Committee is made up of a group of young females from all localities in North Ayrshire. As we focus on empowering young females through sport and leadership our key Principles are: valuing girls' voices, promoting peer role models, co-creating projects, celebrating unstoppable girls and increasing female participation in sport.

Project Description

Throug following these key priciples we hope to have the impact that young girls and females in sport can feel that thye have a voice within their community, help make descisions in sports and feel unstoppable. Furthermore, we aime for this committee to ihnspire more girls in taking part in sport, have a voice within their community and feel comfortbale taking part in sport. We realised having only two Active Girls representitives wasn't enough to make a change, therefore recrutied more young females. The committee is now made up of two representitives from S3-S6. With only two reps in each school last year some still managed to hold events such as Active Girl's Day on the lead up to International Womens Day, girls only clubs and raise awareness within their school around some barriers young females face. Some of these events saw over 100 girls participate.Wiht now 8 reps in each school we hope to host event more events, raise more awareness and make a cultural change for young females in sport.

 

We wold like to buy t-shirts so that future years can be identifiable when taking furute workshops or extra-curricular clubs in the local area. (t-shirts & pritning - £250)

 

We recently went on a senior Active Girls Residenital to take part in team building activities, Sportscotland workshop and school communtiy planning. This has allowed the group to gain further understanding of challenges yougn females face in sport and how to resolve them. It allowed the gorup to develop strogner relationships with eachother, understand their role as a mentor to others and create astrong plan for female sport in their school and community.It allowed us the space to voice out opinions in a safe envoironment. Money towards this will allow for furture representitives to experince this and carry on a legacy. (£750)
