Summary

Garnock Community Campus Parent Council provides a uniform hub which is free to all. Providing freshly laundered, pre-loved and new items of school uniform to pupils across the campus, our Hub provides privacy and discretion when needed. By providing an outlet for pre-loved clothes we also reduce the amount of clothing which goes to landfill thus supporting the environment. Our Uniform Hub also provides toiletries, tights, stationary and school bags thus reducing the cost of the school day.

Description

Garnock Community Campus Parent Council provides a uniform hub which is free and accessible to all.   Providing freshly laundered, pre-loved and new items of school uniform  to pupils across the campus, our Hub provides privacy and discretion when needed.  By providing an outlet for pre-loved clothes we also reduce the amount of clothing which goes to landfill thus supporting the environment.  Our Uniform Hub also provides toiletries, tights, stationary and school bags thus reducing the cost of the school day - something we are passionate about.

The Uniform Hub is used regulalry by many of our school community.  Be it parents looking for items of clothing to help reduce the strain on the household budget, those looking for an environmentally kinder way of providing uniform to pupils or providing a fresh pair of tights in an emergency, we striive to provide what the school community needs, no questions asked.

Should we be successful in gaining any funds from the Participatory Budget, the Parent Council will purchase new items for the Uniform Hub.  This will  include everything that a pupil would need for the school day.  There are pupil representatives who attend Parent Councill meetings, supported by a member of the Senior Leadership team, who provide requests to the Parent Council as to how the Parent Council can support the pupil community.   They also provide feedback on projects supported by the Parent Council including the Uniform Hub.

How have young people been involved in shaping this project?

There are pupil representatives who attend Parent Councill meetings, supported by a member of the Senior Leadership team, who provide requests to the Parent Council as to how the Parent Council can support the pupil community.   They also provide feedback on projects supported by the Parent Council including the Uniform Hub.   Senior pupils also volunteer with varying aspects of the Uniform Hub. There is regular engagement and enquiries via our closed Facebook page which shows just what a popular and important resource this is to the Campus Community.

    Over 200 volunteers and young people have either participated or benefitted from the funding. The Parent Council were able to purchase new items of school clothing and accessories meaning pupils and families could benefit from the provision of new items and not recycled alone. A contribution to the cost of new school ties for new pupils could also be made. These are issued to all new pupils and is not assessed by any eligibility criteria meaning fairness and equity to all and reduced stigma. Parent Feedback 1 - The uniform hub has been a massive help to us for our ever growing child! We have used this for more than one year and it makes the start of school so much easier knowing we can hand in stuff we have bought previously and then swap it out for bigger sizes. It is very well organized so when you go in it's all sitting neatly and easy to find what you are looking for. The parent council who help at it are also very friendly and on hand to help look for what is required. I know many families use this facility and kids throughout the year also use it if they have had an accident in school or simply got soaked at lunch times. Parent feedback 2 - I donate all my kids clothes/ shoes /jackets that are in good condition at the end of term or the start of the new one, and I have used it a couple of times to swap the kids blazers for the bigger size as I feel it's lovely to have a wee blazer for starting back but it's not something that they get much use out of over the whole year and they can be quite pricey.. definitely feel the uniform hub is a great thing to have. Parent feedback 3 - I have used the Hub a couple of times and both times have been during the school year as my son has either took a stretch or has scrapped the last pair of 'unholy' trousers at the knee and I had to use the Hub. I found it was helpful to have as the school clothes have been getting more expensive the older he gets, and there is no long waiting times having to wait for the stuff to be delivered. There was variety of sizes at the times I used. I have donated school clothes, jackets and school bags in where otherwise it would have been put the bin. Parent Feedback 4 - The uniform hub is amazing! We have used it both to donate and to relove jumpers, cardis and blazers. The Hub is an amazing way to make sure clothes with loads of life left are used rather than ending up in the tip too soon.
