Project Summary
SPLAT! SQUISH! SHHHH! | KO-NEKT have been advocating for the voices and rights of children and young people with ASN since its beginning in 2011. This award would allow us to expand our support to include a for purpose sensory room that provides a safe space for young people with ASN to explore their sensory needs. KO-NEKT always does the most with whatever resources we have available, and you can bet that with this funding we will create a sensory room that will be the talk of Ayrshire.Project Description
Sensory play and exploration are integral to child development. It builds brain connections, cognition, language, fine/gross motor skills, and encourages exploration and understanding of the world. Children with ASN are an underserved population who have been historically discouraged or completely prevented from exploring their world, and are still systemically disadvantaged when it comes to building skills and accessing their local area. That is where KO-NEKT comes in. We can, and do, provide safe spaces for young people to play and grow. In this case, we are really hoping to gain the funding required to expand this to include a sensory room that's components are chosen by our young people.

How have young people been involved in shaping this project?
The answer to this question is private.
Location: Our KO-NEKT Play and Learning Centre is located in Ardrossan and serves a large catchment area. Ayrshire while beautiful and full of community spirit, faces social inequality. This award would be a step forward in tackling these inequalities offering a for purpose sensory room for a significant number of young people over a broad area.
Proposed on behalf of: KO-NEKT is a non-profit organisation that provides flexible support to young people with ASN, including community support, group sessions and life-skills groups.
