Heather Lodge is a not-for-profit holistic therapy centre which provides a wide range of indoor and outdoor therapies, often free of charge as a result of collaboration with local charity and statutory partners. In addition to three buildings which offer working space for therapists, we maintain and run an attractive garden, featuring work spaces, patios, raised growing beds, fruit trees, flower beds, a greenhouse, a fire pit and a woodland area. The garden has recently been enhanced for disability access with the benefit of external funding. Research shows that providing outdoor well-being activities can offer multiple health benefits, particularly reducing anxiety and depression. Heather Lodge CIC has received funding from the Scottish Government’s Mental Health and Well-being Fund during the last three years. Activities in the garden include fitness training, Qi Gong, mindfulness, Shinrin Yoku, therapeutic gardening,  a women’s drumming circle, and spiritual and social gatherings. Participants describe the value of the social contact which these activities give them. Increasingly the garden is in use by clients and members of the community for personal enjoyment and relaxation. We also encourage volunteering. For the last few years we have relied on a second-hand garden table, bench and chairs which were kindly donated by well-wishers but which have now reached the end of their useful life. We want to replace these with benches, a picnic table, and some suitable garden chairs, of pressure-treated wood with a ten-year guarantee. We intend to commission and/or purchase these from local craftspeople or businesses. Anticipated costs are as follows:  Picnic Table £375; 3-seat Bench £265; x2 Chairs £360; TOTAL £1000.

Largs Community Winter Warmer - Film and Food Event

This project wish to build on previous 'Cinema events' hosted by the Largs Community Council, and create a fully inclusive event, where people can come together, enjoy a movie, chat, and have a meal, without having to worry about cost. We wish to engage as much of the community as possible and will publicise on social media, through the schools as well as care homes and other channels. The venue is fully accessible.

The format will be as follows:

  • Children and ASN movie - late afternoon showing. This will take place in the Valhalladrome and will comprise one or two shorter movies with subtitles. We will be advertising to ensure that parents know it's aimed at younger children, or those with ASN and as such, can come and go as required and also children, under  parent/carer supervision, will be welcome to 'be themselves' and enjoy the movie without worrying about requiring to keep seated and keep quiet. 
  • Simple meal in cafe area - utilising the newly refurbished, Cafe area, we wish to be able to offer people a simple meal to be enjoyed in the seating area. This will be free of charge and will have offering to suit all ages as well as when possible accomodating allergy requirements. 
  • This will still be a family friendly movie, albeit longer, and in the Barrfield Theatre - our intention is to offer a 'current' movie release which will allow people to enjoy a genuine movie experience without having to travel further afield. 
  • We hope to be able to engage a local band to play during the meal time in the lobby of Vikingar! to add to the ambience, but also show case their talents to the wider community.

Final costings are to be confirmed however expected to be as follows:

Cinema screenings - 2 movie showings on one afternoon - c£250. This will be confirmed nearer the time as there is variability depending on movie choices and specific license costs. We will engage with our community to identify the films that are top of people's list to see nearer the time.

Hall Hire - expected around £250 to book both venues for the required period. 

Food - £500 - Vikingar staff will operate the cafe and provide a simple menu which is based on that current at The Portal. We expect this will fund up to 100 meals (Soup+Sandwich or Main and side), however LCC have also some funding available for previous cinema events which will allow us a buffer if demand outstrips the funding allocation.

Three Towns Discovery Award Group

The Three Towns Discovery Award Group is aimed at all people over 50 years of age, to help promote an active and healthy lifestyle by offering challenges to both stimulate and motivate.

The Discovery Award is a personal challenge, through a programme of your chosen leisure activities with no exam at the end. You need no special qualifications, just a willingness to have a go and the determination to do the very best that you personally achieve. 

As part of this, we bring in other services to educate and draw awareness to local and national topics that impact us and the wider community. We aim to help combat social isloation and lonliness in the community by hosting open events like coffee mornings for those who are not able to join the group for various reasons. 

We are applying for money to help towards the cost of a group trip, buy resources to continue making crafts that we sell to help generate a small income and  donate monies to local charities and host an Easter coffee morning for all Discovery Award Groups (Irvine, GV, Kilwinning & Ukranian Group) and the wider community. 

We are asking for the following costs to be considered:

1. Edinburgh Bus Trip Tour (x10) = £ 230

3. Resin Kit = £70

4. Multicoloured Felt Fabric Rolls (x3) = £30

Winter Warmers - Cooking Classes for Families

We are applying to run a day of cookery classes in early 2026 for Island families - using sustainable produce to create budget friendly meals, perfect for batch cooking for the freezer. 

Participants will take part in interactive demonstration, bringing families together to learn new recipes for hearty healthy meals like stews, pies, pastas, soups and roasts that bring everyone to the table—plus tips for adapting dishes to suit all ages. Families will build essential skills like measuring, mixing, seasoning, and timing, with guidance tailored to both adults and children. The session will focus on sustainability, making the most of ingredients and avoiding waste, creating cost effective meals that can be batch cooked and frozen, supporting families to prepare for any produce shortages which can affect Arran during bad weather. 

The hands-on cookery class is designed for families who want to reconnect with food in a positive way. We believe that the kitchen is the heart of a home - and cooking together and sharing what you have made with friends and family can be a powerful way of tackling social isolation during the colder months. 

We previously delivered a series of cookery classes on Arran already at the high; school where local catering staff benefited from elevating their skills. The feedback was so positive, we are confident that there is a real desire on the island for this kind of activity.

The sessions would encourage island families to come together to learn new skills and spend quality time together. The classes would be open to families including children aged 6+ with adult supervision, and numbers for sessions will be dependent on venue capacity - 6 families would maximise reach whilst protecting the personalised nature of the session.

Cost breakdown as follows:

  • Chef Tutor @ 1 day delivery plus prep time - £250.00

  • Travel from mainland including ferry ticket and fuel costs for one vehicle - £100.00

  • Contribution to local venue for hosting event - £200.00

  • Creation of recipe books for all families to keep, containers for food - £50.00

  • Refreshments provided by host venue - £100.00

  • Ingredients from local suppliers - £200.00

  • Project assistant to support chef tutor with set up/sign in, including admin allowance for booking families into sessions/evaluations  - £100.00

Total requested: £1000.00

The Future

Ardrossan Castle Heritage Society Engagement for Hub on the Hill

ACHS would like to purchase a colour laser printer, ink, paper, and laminating pouches. ACHS are in process of trying to get a Heritage hub built on castle hill. This would provide much needed toilets, indoor shelter, and exhibition/education space. As part of our feasibility study we need to engage with the community. To do this we need posters, flyers, surveys printed off as well as printing of plans and building specifications to share with public. We hold many outdoor events on the hill and often need laminated information and signage on display. The requested items would enable us to do this.

Keeping our Service Free

Our charity was set up to provide free transport to the Irvine community who were diagnosed with cancer and requires treatment in any hospital within Ayrshire, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Once the patient has had treatment we will continue to support them with transport for non-cancer related treatment. We have around 40 volunteer staff within drivers and office. None of our staff are paid other than our drivers who are paid mileage expenses. For us to provide this service the charity must raise over £65000 per year which is all raised through donations, fund raising activities and through grant applications like this. All our drivers are paid a mileage allowance at 50p per mile which is calculated at 45p per mile plus an additional 5p per mile for extra passengers.

The £1000 would breakdown as 14 runs to Glasgow at 71 miles at 50p per mile = £1000This would allow us to take a maximum of 42 patients to appointments.

The £1000 if used for local hospitals within Ayrshire it would breakdown as 33 runs to local hospitals at 30 miles at 50p per mile = £1000. This would allow us to take a maximum of 99 patients to appointments.

To have a Presentation/Awards Ceremony for the winners of the various competitions which run within the Club and to acknowledge any special achievements or contributions made by any of our bowlers or volunteers. It would also be an opportunity to thank the members, and their families, for their participation and continued support, without which the Club would not be able to function.

Lights and Laughter

This event has been running for years with many attending including children, older residents, and vulnerable members of our community. With proper festive lighting, we can make the event more vibrant, inclusive, and safe, ensuring that everyone enjoys a welcoming environment.

However, the cost of professional lighting installation and operation remains our biggest challenge. The estimated cost of this year’s lighting project is £4232.74, which covers hire, installation, maintenance, and safe dismantling. As a nonprofit, we rely entirely on fundraising, volunteers, and the generosity of partners. The price this year has almost doubled since last year and without external support, we face the risk of scaling back this much-anticipated celebration in 2026.

We have already taken steps to raise funds locally and have a new committe putting this event together hopefully making it bigger and better than before. We have organized community fundraising events and have also received generous donations of time and services from volunteers who are committed to keeping this tradition alive. While this support has taken us part of the way, we still face a shortfall needed to cover the other things we provide. This includes free light wands to all the children, facepainting, food and drink, santa grotto visits and gifts.

By investing in this project, you will help ensure that the Christmas Light Switch-On remains a highlight of our community calendar, bringing light, warmth, and shared celebration to all. We believe that with your support, this year’s event will shine brighter than ever before.

We would like to apply for a funding amount of £1000 and if successful we would be able to provide a bus outing for approximately 50 older people, with the remainder being used towards providing a lunch for our members. The funding would provide an opportunity for our members to enjoy a social outing and lunch that might otherwise be unattainable due to cost of living or mobility issues. 

The cost of the bus would be £550 and the remaining £450 would be used towards funding the lunch.
