Largs Music Club
2025-09-03 • No comments • • North Coast and Cumbraes
We are applying for £1000 to cover the essential costs of musical instruments, repairs, and accessories such as replacement strings, drumsticks, reeds, and other small but vital items that ensure instruments can be played and maintained. Having reliable instruments in good condition is crucial for our members, particularly those who cannot afford to buy or repair their own.
This funding will directly benefit a wide range of people in our community, from younger adults taking their first steps into music to elderly people looking to reconnect with a passion; LMC is for those who want a positive and creative outlet. By removing barriers to participation, we make sure that everyone—regardless of experience, age, or financial means—feels empowered to take part and grow in confidence.
We believe this idea deserves to be funded because music has a powerful impact on wellbeing, community spirit, and self-expression. By supporting LMC you’ll be helping us to give more people the chance to learn, collaborate, and find joy in making music together. With this investment, we can continue building an inclusive space where creativity flourishes, friendships form, and the next generation of musicians feel encouraged and inspired.
The previous year has taught me that we will likely spend at least £500 this next year in replacement strings and reeds (which range in costs depending on the instrument, but can cost £20 per set).
Im also aware of a few individuals who are saving to buy a second hand instrument to join us, and with funding I will insist the club pay for those to assist greater inclusivity. This means that the club owns the instruments and that others can play them. A recent example of this was our purchase of a mandolin for £100, which several Regulars enjoy learning. Going forward, I aim to provide more brass instruments, including a trumpet, which a few would-be members have enquired about. A quick scan of Ebay tells me that I will likely need to commit at least £100 to this.
Start little Grow Big/Three Towns Community Garden
2025-09-19 • No comments • • Three Towns
Start Little Grow Big partners with North Ayrshire Food bank, The Three Towns Growers, The Argyle Centre, West Coast Furniture Bank and The Criminal Justice Team to build a community garden within Ardrossan that addresses food insecurity and strengthen community resilience. By encouraging collective action and skill-sharing, the project nurtures individuals, promotes learning, and empowers all Three Towns residents to grow and enjoy nutritious food. Diversity of skills and experience is valued, making the spaces open to everyone and aimed at improving community wellbeing. This proposal will create three self-sustaining community gardens, one in each town. These gardens use permaculture principles to provide fruit, vegetables, and therapeutic gardening for those without gardens, directly addressing food insecurity and supporting community wellbeing. The project aims to build community ownership locally and promote both formal and informal education in food production. It will focus on hands-on learning, risk assessment, and sharing peer-led expertise, valuing practical experience. The project is committed to organic-only growing, supporting natural pollinators, and avoiding pesticides and artificial growth enhancers. Efforts will also repurpose materials and explore upcycling. The initiative will engage a diverse range of cultural groups, including New Scots from Syria, Ukraine, Afghanistan, and long-standing communities in the Three Towns. Their involvement will combine traditional and modern cultivation practices, enriching local food production. The project is dedicated to fostering collective action and empowerment within the community. The project's long-term benefits are significant. It will empower the community by building ownership of growing spaces, providing fresh produce for community larders, and offering opportunities for exercise and mindfulness. The project has encouraged wider community engagement around food access and provision. It has also promoted biodiversity and pollinators, reduced carbon footprints, and provided volunteering opportunities that boost self-confidence and wellness. This project has built solidarity and a common cause among the Three Towns communities. By creating these spaces, we aim to start conversations with community members about issues they may face. The community campaigner has facilitated a mutual aid style of group work with and for individuals. The project has had a positive impact on the community as it involves 30-40 individuals in its development. An estimated 250 people will benefit from the produce, while 150 will have the opportunity to engage in activities such as storytelling and educational sessions at the project sites. This initiative aims to create spaces where people can relax, actively participate in their community, and engage in gardening based on a "do what you can" ethos. Partnerships with other organizations will facilitate directing participants to the project and providing on-site services. The Three Towns project aims to foster community ownership and sustainable practices through the promotion of organic cultivation. Participants will be encouraged to grow their own produce, regardless of their living situation. This initiative not only focuses on food growth but also on personal development and community collaboration. By involving diverse individuals with various skills, the project will thrive, offering valuable experiences and knowledge about nutritious food and healthier lifestyle choices to all residents of The Three Towns.

Winter Warmers - Cooking Classes for Families
2025-09-05 • 3 comments • • Arran
We are applying to run a day of cookery classes in early 2026 for Island families - using sustainable produce to create budget friendly meals, perfect for batch cooking for the freezer.
Participants will take part in interactive demonstration, bringing families together to learn new recipes for hearty healthy meals like stews, pies, pastas, soups and roasts that bring everyone to the table—plus tips for adapting dishes to suit all ages. Families will build essential skills like measuring, mixing, seasoning, and timing, with guidance tailored to both adults and children. The session will focus on sustainability, making the most of ingredients and avoiding waste, creating cost effective meals that can be batch cooked and frozen, supporting families to prepare for any produce shortages which can affect Arran during bad weather.
The hands-on cookery class is designed for families who want to reconnect with food in a positive way. We believe that the kitchen is the heart of a home - and cooking together and sharing what you have made with friends and family can be a powerful way of tackling social isolation during the colder months.
We previously delivered a series of cookery classes on Arran already at the high; school where local catering staff benefited from elevating their skills. The feedback was so positive, we are confident that there is a real desire on the island for this kind of activity.
The sessions would encourage island families to come together to learn new skills and spend quality time together. The classes would be open to families including children aged 6+ with adult supervision, and numbers for sessions will be dependent on venue capacity - 6 families would maximise reach whilst protecting the personalised nature of the session.
Cost breakdown as follows:
-
Chef Tutor @ 1 day delivery plus prep time - £250.00
-
Travel from mainland including ferry ticket and fuel costs for one vehicle - £100.00
-
Contribution to local venue for hosting event - £200.00
-
Creation of recipe books for all families to keep, containers for food - £50.00
-
Refreshments provided by host venue - £100.00
-
Ingredients from local suppliers - £200.00
-
Project assistant to support chef tutor with set up/sign in, including admin allowance for booking families into sessions/evaluations - £100.00
Total requested: £1000.00
We confirm that we have all relevant insurances, policies, training and PVG checks required to deliver this project.
Stevenston Christmas Lights Event 2026
2025-09-17 • No comments • • Three Towns
The Committee aim to keep this a free event in line with the rising cost of living struggles which are evidenced in the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation figures, with Stevenston sitting in the top 10% most deprived decile.
Our aims is to work in partnership with local organisations to provide free fun activities on the night like face painting, glitter tattoos, badge-making, arts & crafts, large outdoor games, retro gaming and much more however, we would like to invite in other businesses to bring something different to the event. This includes the hire of a snow machine, providing free food & and live entertainment. We are also lucky to have the appearance of Santa, where young people will get to visit him and receive a free small token gift in the form of a selection box.
We also host 2 competitions on the run up to the event. These include a Christmas Card Competition and a Window display competition. (Prizes are generously donated by local businesses) The Christmas Card Competition is an opportunity to get our young people at primary school involved. The top three cards will be professionally printed and gifted to the successful young people. We will also make additional prints to sell on the night for those interested. This sale helps kick start the fundraising for the following years event. The window display is an opportunity to encourage community engagement and participation. A friendly competition between businesses and neighbours to get people into the festive spirit and help create community cheer.
With the help of North Ayrshire Council in the past the display of the lights costings have been covered, however, with budget cuts this now falls into the hands of Stevenston Lights Volunteers to source. Alongside the cost of living crisis, businesses and individuals are no longer in a position to sponsor like they once did, as they face rising costs also. So we need to reach out to funders like you to request assistance.
This event is a year long commitment to plan and implement and requires £8,000 - £10,000 each year to host. We are applying in advance for our 2026 switch on event to help kick start our fundraising efforts.
We are applying for the following resources to be considered for funding:
£500 - money to buy ingredients for free food distribution
£150 - Santa's Grotto inflatable
£350 - Live entertainment delvered by Irvine Beat FM
Wee School Pantry

We are looking at suppling fresh meat parcels with a value of £20 per pack, including things like mince, chicken, bacon and sausages. We hace on average about 50 members that use our pantry every week. 50 packs at £20 would cost £1000. We would be using a local butcher keeping our business local and cutting down on transportation costs and fuel emissions.

All lighting will be controlled by a technical support crew
The pantomine is a locally run group and grows year on year and is trying to get more professional. We have a strong junior cast who are split into 2 groups to cover 6 performances we now do and they get supported and trained on a weekly basis by volunteers. The main cast is the largest it has ever been and there is a strong technical crew and a host of volunteers helping in shop, door and backstage with young people as well as make up and costumes. It really is a year round project as meetings on script and music have to happen long before rehearsals.
The junior cast learn to sing and dance and this introduces many to an exercise they enjoy and can do at home to practice
Tickets are still £8 for adults and discounts given to community groups and the matinee is a more relaxed performance where it allows greater accessibility to children and adults with learning disabilities and when we have more technology we can control lights and sounds to suit those needs and omit some that would cause issues.
The cost of running these lights helps the church as they pay the running costs which in the current climate are large so these lights will be much cheaper to run
We hope to run another successful pantomime and hope 1080 come along like last year and enjoy an event that would not be feasible to many to afford if not for this community pantomine.

Community togetherness - Irvine Pipe Band
2025-09-02 • 1 comment • • Irvine
Considering that a large proportion (at least 50%) of our learners are drawn from communities which are feature on the bottom 20%, 10%, or 5% of the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation, our Band is a lifeline in preserving the often-expensive art of Highland Bagpiping and Drumming the community.
We see our greatest achievements to date as being the achievements that our young members have attained through the years. Our young learners have gone on to a range of positive destinations in the piping community including study at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and many have gone on to play in Grade 1 corps including Inveraray and District, Shotts and Dykehead, The Glasgow Skye Association, and Greater Glasgow Police Scotland Pipe Band.
Specific Project
Notwithstanding the success of our free tuition programme in producing high caliber pipers, drumming tuition in our community has significantly trailed behind. Drumming tuition in the wider area has been inconsistent both in terms of provision and quality. This has led to a shortage of young, innovative, high-quality players within the community which, over time, has become a key factor in restraining the local piping and drumming ‘scene’ from reaching its full potential.
To resolve this problem, we have recently launched a new drumming tuition initiative. We have acquired three Grade One drumming instructors (two side drummers and one tenor drummer) from outwith our community to revitalise drumming tuition in the area. These instructors are young (all under 30) and are delivering first rate tuition in a forward-thinking manner that cuts through to our young learners. We shall equip these learners with the skills they need to take their drumming to the next level and we intend to facilitate them acquiring qualifications through the Piping and Drumming Qualifications Board.

Perennial Pathway
2025-09-07 • No comments • • North Coast and Cumbraes
We are aiming to raise awareness of the natural environment & how we can protect it by showcasing the range of perennials we can grow in our temperate climate. Not just flowers but foliage plants, grasses & ferns all thrive here. These plants provide food & shelter for insects & wildlife, as well as colour & movement to soften the harsh concreate & grey pavers.
Whilst we are aiming to grow plants from seeds, & cuttings, many species can take some time to establish; this funding request is for initial plant purchases to begin the pathway. We want to highlight to the community how even an awkward plain walkway can promote life & nourish the environment. These plants will self -seed & can be used for cuttings & divisions in the future to further populate the communal areas around the walkway.
The planting will take a naturalistic approach, repeated in blocks along the length of the walkway. Each perennial block will cost £333.40 which includes a discount from the nursery. Total = £1000.20
We have three blocks of perennials along the length of the walkway, each in slightly different colour tones. The benefits of being in nature are well documented & will bring a soothing element to start & finish the busy school day.
