Trindlemoss Day Opportunities is based in Irvine the people with learning disabilities, physical impairments and sensory  who attend come from all over North Ayrshire. Trindlemoss aims to transform community attitudes to better support and promote opportunities for people with learning disabilities. We help people with learning disabilities share their strengths and skills with the community and encourage recognition for their input.

Throughout our work , we stay focused on our service users, and the relationships that we build with them the supports we offer them and enrich them at Trindlemoss we try to support encourage each individual to reach their full potential.

After receiving PB funding last year Friends of Trindlemoss has organised social events at night which have been well attended by over sixty peopl and the building has been used at night.

Parents, carers, and support workers from other organisations  have attended and the people with learning disabilities have had the opportunity to meet up with their friends and socialise at night some of the people attending have not seen each other since school.

We have also had social evenings fortnightly to bring carers and support staff together. At the monthly social events parents have met other parents and this has also helped new parents with the transitions from school to day opportunities. Parents have also been given the opportunity to meet up with other parents they have not seen from Lockheart school.

Trindle moss Court and Trindlemoss House also have residents that have benefited from the social events has it has also given them the opportunity to meet their neighbours.

The criteria we meet is health and wellbeing as Friends of Trindlemoss promote physical and mental wellbeing the project tackles social isolation and it brings the Trindlemoss Community together as well as bringing the wider community into Day opportunities. The people who reside in the tenancies have mental health issues and learning disabilities so we also hit the criteria for building community spirits as we have had the social event in an environment that is familiar to everyone.

Friends of Trindlemoss would like to hold a big social event in Castlepark community centre, the group would like a bar and band and would like to open the event up to more people with learning disabilities who live in the community they also would like a buffet as at all our social events we always have a food.

This will be a challenge for some of our service users as we would like the event to run from 7pm to 11pm and it is trying a new environment but some people with learning disabilities know Castlepark community centre and attend clubs there already and volunteer at their lunch club, community garden , community cafe and the dementia cafe every week.

We are also working on a newletter to tell more people about our events and if all goes well we will publish this twice a year this in turn will be sent to the community learning disability team and other third party organisations that support people with learning disabilities in the community.

Our group meets weekly during term time, where we enjoy a cuppa and a blether and share our stories from the previous week. We also enjoy taking part in activities such as seasonal arts and crafts, planting, colouring and painting as well as games and other activities. We have been grateful to be able to connect with organisations such as Megan's Space, NEST, Breathing Space and The Prevention and Service Support Team, giving us the tools to be able to support each other, our families and our community.

We benefited greatly from the locality PB fund this year and would be grateful for the opportunity to do so again in 2026. We would like to be able to fund activities that would bring our families together during school holiday periods. This would ease the financial starin at this time of year and would also reduce isolation by encouraging us to meet up and mix with other families.

During our sessions in the Children First Hub, we would like to be able to fund two wellbeing, therapeutic sessions provided by college students. By using students to conduct these sessions we can keep costs low and also support our local community college. These sessions would provide us with health and wellbeing support that we would not be able to fund on our own.

We enjoy arts and crafts at our sessions as these ease the everyday stresses our families experience. The increase in costs have made in more difficult to fund this. We would therefore like to purchase arts and craft supplies for our space, in particular cross stitch and painting by numbers. We have benefited from cthe therapeutic affects that arts and crafts can provide, and we would like to continue to experience this.

Again, to help combat the rise in the cost of living, we would loke to be able to fund a breakfast and lunch session for parents and carers prior to the end of school terms. We have experienced how these events can breakdown isolation  and support our mental health and in turn this gives us the tools to be able to support our families.

Finally, the skills gained by planning and managing a budget of this scale will up-skill us all and provide us with the confidence to support our local community while also improving our health and wellbeing.

Our trip would allow our members to socialise, meeting others, help with their wellbeing and social isolation. It would also help with their cost of living.

We are seeking £1000 from the Participatory budget to help us build and deliver our new carers and family programme within the North Coast. This programme has been designed by our dedicated volunteers and members to support neurodivergent families and carers within our community. To make these plans a reality, we have continued to fundraise and have managed to raise £900 to date, which will go towards our proposed activities.  The programme of activities we will provide is aimed at addressing the three key priorities: Cost of living crisis, Improving health and wellbeing and building community spirit.  To address the cost of living crisis, we will be providing free and subsidised trips and activities, as many unpaid carers and neurodivergent families would not be able to afford this, as they are more likely to be impacted by poverty. This includes a trip to Edinburgh zoo for the VIP lantern experience (ASN session) in Dec. (£912) for 10 adults and 10 children. This will be covered by our existing fundraising, which will also support positive wellbeing. It is an opportunity for families to come together in a supportive environment and experience the magic of the festive period. To continue this work, we plan to provide a carers' lunch in Jan or Feb to help build community connections and natural support networks. The approximate cost of this is £300, accounting for £20 per head for 15 adults. We are also looking at providing an Easter event that will include an animal handling session for neurodivergent families in the North Coast at an Approx cost of £250. This will support positive family wellbeing and reduce the financial barrier to accessing activities during the Easter holidays. In addition to this, we would like to purchase craft materials at an Approx cost of £150 to host themed family sessions such as Easter, Halloween and Christmas 2026, etc., to provide a range of free activity days for families, which will improve community spirit and promote positive health and wellbeing, as well as supporting families impacted by poverty. We are also looking for £100 to help towards the cost of providing free tea, coffee, snacks and juice at our events. In addition to the above, we are planning to offer carers a trip to Culzean Castle to provide a break from their caring responsibilities, costing £220 for 10 adults at £22 per head. Our activities give carers and families time to relax and enjoy shared experiences, offering much needed respite and improving mental wellbeing. With your support, we can make lasting positive change within our communities, building stronger connections and natural support mechanisms. We are very grateful for the opportunity and are passionate about making our new family programme a success within the North Coast. We would also like to thank our volunteers and the families that continue to support us in achieving our goals, and feel that this is a positive way to develop further community spirit and community involvement. The total cost of our project is approximately £1932, with our existing funds covering the additional costs and any venue hire costs to ensure the project's success. We come from all backgrounds and walk of life, but we have a common goal, a determination to gain independance, to strive for success both in the group and in our personal lives and build our confidence in learning new skills, making meaningful connections and building our confidence. The DISC Award is an adaptation of the over 50's Discovery Award where we will try new things through the "hobbies & interestes" section, give back to the local community through "service in the community" and explore new people and places through our "journey of discovery". 

What started as a weekly cooking group is now a planned and structured environment of which we have big plans for. We currently meet within the Ardrossan Youth Centre and would like to aim our first project towards helping the young people who use the centre. 

With this, we would like to upcycle the unused telephone box within the centre grounds and make this a well being space for the centre. Allowing us and the young people to have a space to seek information, access fidget toys and just have a quiet space to calm down or reflect if they want. 

We would also like to go on quarterly trips as part of our award, giving people the opportunity to explore new places and cultures. 

Depending on circumstances, not everyone is in the habit of eating a nutritious breakfast. We would love to be able to offer a small bite to eat at the start of our sessions to make sure everyones starting off with a full tummy. 

Although the group only started in January, so much progress has already been made. We would like to continue to grow and this grant would help us make a good start.

Heather Lodge is a not-for-profit holistic therapy centre which provides a wide range of indoor and outdoor therapies, often free of charge as a result of collaboration with local charity and statutory partners. In addition to three buildings which offer working space for therapists, we maintain and run an attractive garden, featuring work spaces, patios, raised growing beds, fruit trees, flower beds, a greenhouse, a fire pit and a woodland area. The garden has recently been enhanced for disability access with the benefit of external funding. Research shows that providing outdoor well-being activities can offer multiple health benefits, particularly reducing anxiety and depression. Heather Lodge CIC has received funding from the Scottish Government’s Mental Health and Well-being Fund during the last three years. Activities in the garden include fitness training, Qi Gong, mindfulness, Shinrin Yoku, therapeutic gardening,  a women’s drumming circle, and spiritual and social gatherings. Participants describe the value of the social contact which these activities give them. Increasingly the garden is in use by clients and members of the community for personal enjoyment and relaxation. We also encourage volunteering. For the last few years we have relied on a second-hand garden table, bench and chairs which were kindly donated by well-wishers but which have now reached the end of their useful life. We want to replace these with benches, a picnic table, and some suitable garden chairs, of pressure-treated wood with a ten-year guarantee. We intend to commission and/or purchase these from local craftspeople or businesses. Anticipated costs are as follows:  Picnic Table £375; 3-seat Bench £265; x2 Chairs £360; TOTAL £1000.
