Bright Futures After-School Club
2025-08-30 • No comments • • Community Wealth Building PB
We are piloting a new after-school tutor-led learning club in Kilwinning for primary and secondary pupils (ages 8–16). The project aims to provide free, accessible support in core subjects such as literacy, numeracy, and study skills to help raise attainment, boost confidence, and reduce stress for families who cannot afford private tutoring.
The club will run weekly sessions in a local community venue for 10 weeks, with small-group tuition led by qualified tutors. Places will be open to all pupils, but we will prioritise children from families living in SIMD 1 and 2 areas who are most affected by poverty and the cost-of-living crisis. By removing financial barriers, the project ensures all children, regardless of background, can access support to reach their full potential.
This pilot will test demand and outcomes. If successful, it could grow in future, helping Kilwinning’s children improve school performance, develop resilience, and feel supported by their community.
Breakdown of Costs:
-
Tutor fees (2 tutors x 10 weeks) – £1,200
-
Venue hire (community space for 10 weeks) – £300
-
Learning resources (books, stationery, equipment) – £200
-
Healthy snacks for pupils – £150
-
Promotion & materials (flyers, posters, digital) – £150

Our club decided last year to give our youngsters a free permit to encourage them into the great outdoors,to get them away from a computer screen or a smartphone, fishing is well versed for people's wellbeing and to see the young ones having a big smile on their face when they land a fish is heartwarming. We also give free permits to mental health organisations plus Woodlands View at Irvine central hospital and the Richmond fellowship
This year has been a tremendous success with the sale of approximately 700 members around half of these members have received a free permit. We would like to apply for £1,000 to help in the price of printing permits at a cost of £0.65 per unit plus help in fuel and running costs of our grass cutting equipment for next year 2026
The club income is permit sales only,we don't have any other way to generate money
We would really appreciate any help to continue encouraging our juveniles into the sport as they are our clubs future
Costings-
Permit printing - £455
Fuel bills/ maintenance - £300
Servicing - £245

Refreshments for football sessions = £100
Total = £1,000
Crossing Together Toddler Group
2025-08-28 • No comments • • Irvine
Crossing Together Toddlers was formed in March 2024 following the project being approached by two local new parents who felt there was a need for a group locally in Bourtreehill. Both mums, along with another four mums who joined the scaffolding core team last year, are the lead participant, along with our Mission Pioneer in running the weekly sessions on Tuesday mornings for 2 hours at the Relief Mission Centre. The group lost 9 children at the end of last session to nursery and 4 families where the mum returned to work, but since advertising during the summer we quickly reached capacity of 40 babies/toddlers again, who attend with a least one adult per child. The sessions are free to ensure it is accessible to all.
At Crossing Together Toddlers we aim to provide a fun, warm, safe, welcoming and accessible space for babies and toddlers to come along with their grown-ups from Bourtreehill and the surrounding areas of Irvine. In setting up the group we initially looked at accessing funding to purchase equipment and toys however a toddler group in Troon had recently folded and they gifted us items that meant we could launch the group immediately. The group is free of charge to families to access and weekly snacks and craft materials are provided through donations and fundraising. It is important for us to maintain a no charge policy to maximise accessibility due to the cost of living crisis and our locality being significantly impacted with regards poverty. Weekly snacks provided are balanced with items like fruit, toast and juice/water being provided for the children and a warm drink and biscuits/cakes for the grown-ups. As well as the weekly sessions we want to continue to provide the families with new experiences that can include their older children and partners which will extend the community spirit that is being built in and around the group already. These new experiences include family fun days, parties, trips and days out locally and further afield.
Many of the families who attend the group rarely travel outwith Irvine and it would be great to improve the health and wellbeing through a summer trip to a farm park, which would provide a new experience by seeing the animals we sing about and read about at our weekly song and story time. A Christmas Party with entertainment, hospitality and a visit from Santa would also encourage positive mental health during the festive time that brings much stress with extra financial outgoing in winter. A weekend family fun day using the local park space would enable us to include working parents and older children and through hospitality/food and fun activities create a positive aspect to a park area that carries much saddness in the community and encourage resislience and new owership of the local space. In addition we supported the local community to attend all ages art sessions this year and to host a day just for the toddler families to engage and empower them to see how art together can aid mental health wellbeing and be a positive bonding experience we plan to offer this at Easter this year.
For Crossing Together to provide these experiences at no cost to the families in our locality we would be applying for the PB Locality Funding to help meet these costs as well as doing additional fundraising and seeking donations.
Examples of costings to provide such experiences are:-
Farm park admission (approx 80 people includes under 2s free) = £650
Childrens Party Entertainer = £125
Family Art for the Soul Session with Art Therapist and art/craft materials = £150
Hospitality Party/Funday = £130
Additional costings for items like craft materials and additional hospitality would be sought through donations and fundraising.
Hayocks TARA Garden Project

The primary purpose of our community garden is to promote teamwork and foster relationships among residents. When individuals from diverse backgrounds work together towards a common goal, they build connections and strengthen the community. For example, a community garden can help break down barriers between people, encouraging friendships and collaboration. Gardening offers a hands-on way to share skills and knowledge. More experienced gardeners can teach novices, creating a nurturing environment for learning.
Moreover, community gardens contribute to improving the local environment. They provide green spaces where there may be limited access to nature. This green space can help reduce air pollution, manage stormwater, and support local wildlife.
Additionally, a well maintained garden can enhance the aesthetic appeal of a neighborhood, bringing vibrant colors and pleasant scents to the area.
Another significant benefit of community gardens is the promotion of healthy food choices. Growing fresh produce allows community members to have direct access to fruits and vegetables, which are essential for a balanced diet. With rising concerns about food, community gardens can serve as sources of nutritious food. residents can learn about sustainable gardening practices, such as composting and organic gardening, which benefit both individual health and the environment
In conclusion, a community gardening project offers numerous benefits, including fostering relationships, improving the environment, and promoting healthy eating. By working together, residents can transform spaces into flourishing gardens that contribute to the wellbeing of the community. This kind of project not only nurtures plants but also cultivates a sense of belonging and pride among residents making it a valuable addition to any neighborhood.
Our group are keen to add to our community garden within hayocks community hall to achieve the above mentioned points and bring our residents together to benefit our community.
Costings-
Garden benches/picnic tables £500
Outdoor sensory equipment £120
Water butt £80
Compost/raised beds £100
Tools £100
Paint £100
Plants/veg seeds £100
Help Irvine and Dreghorn mark 50 years in the community

We are seeking £1,000 in grant funding to support our 50th anniversary celebrations, which will include a commemorative concert and a social gathering. The events will honour our long-standing contribution to the community and provide an inclusive opportunity for members and audience past and present to reconnect and celebrate.
Funding will help cover key costs such as venue hire, conductor/tutor fees, new music, refreshments, and entertainment.
Total costs will well exceed £1,000, so grant support would enable us to subsidise suggested ticket prices/donation and ensure broad participation.
This milestone offers a unique moment to reflect on our legacy and invest in our future, and we would be deeply grateful for your support.
We have provided key facts about our organisation as an attached document. The group was set up after 3 men in their 40s got back into their teenage hobby of painting warhammer miniatures during the Covid Lockdown and reconnected on social media. Each of them suffered from social anxiety and found reintegrating extremely difficult. Now in our 2nd year we have gone from 9 members in our first week to 40 regular members, with an average of 20 attending each week. Our fortnightly group quickly became weekly due to demand and has become a very busy and lively social gathering. Our members build miniature models, paint them at our painting station, and play games including Warhammer 40k, Age of Sigmar, Killteam and Warcry.
Many of our members are new to the games when they first begin attending and do not have their own equipment and we have been extremely pleased to be able to provide all of the required equipment to allow people to play and attend who may not have the financial means to purchase their own equipment. However as the group continues to grow so does the demand for equipment. At our AGM our members expressed an interest in trying new games alongside the regular Warhammer games and we now have a list of requests which we would love to be able to provide for our members to play.
The Games we would like to provide include: Humblewood Tales, Pathfinder adventure, Dungeons & Dragons, Magic The Gathering, Azul, Everdell, Destinies, Cascadia, Ticket to Ride, Mysterium, Arkham Horror, Masters of the Universe, Dominion, Star Realms, Hero Realms, Fallout, Aliens, Catan, Bristol 1350, Salem 1692, Deadwood 1876 Total Cost £849
Providing these games would open the group up to more people who may not enjoy Wargames but would love a social group to sit and relax while playing a fun game. We also provide free refreshments so would like to apply for £150 towards drinks and snacks for our members to help ensure nobody goes home hungry.

For our Christmas event on Saturday 28th November 2026, we believe every child deserves the chance to experience the magic of visiting Santa. That's why we want to make it free and inclusive for all, ensuring no child from Kilbirnie and Glengarnock misses out due to financial pressures. This would include free presents from Santa, face painting, prizes for treasure hunt and providing light up wands for the parade. Estimated cost £1000
