Project Summary

The football ground is a focal point of local activity—used not just for matches, but, on occasion, for youth programmes and community gatherings. In deprived areas where access to health and leisure services is already limited, this can be a lifeline for many disabled residents. We aim to create accessible facilities would allow more residents to take part, helping to improve mental wellbeing, reduce loneliness, and create stronger community bonds.

Project Description

At present we do not have access to the ground for our disabled and wheelchair user supporters due to uneven ground, lack of ramps and broken steps. We are looking to remove a ticket gate which would give access from the back car park, fix the broken steps and put in a ramp. This would give access to a sheltered area in the stand which would provide an ideal viewing area. This area would need to be highlighted and marked off with tape/paint.

Cost for this would be £1820.

Location: For many residents, the football ground is not just a sports venue—it is a key social and cultural gathering point. Lack of access effectively isolates disabled individuals from one of the few local opportunities for engagement and recreation. Therefore, providing proper access to Merksworth Park allows disabled people to participate in community life, reducing isolation and enhancing mental well-being. By improving access, we are ensuring no one is left behind in community life.

Proposed on behalf of: At Dalry Thistle FC we aim to provide youth development opportunities while promoting a sense of civic identity and pride in our community.
