Irvine Herald Story

Irvine Sharks Division 1 2025-26

2025-09-11  •  No comments  •  irvine sharks  •  Irvine

The club has provided a platform for Irvines first competitive basketball team and inspiring the next generation.

We are applying for approximatley 50% of the cost of hall hire (£690 based on 2024-25 costs) for the upcoming season and referees costs (£310 based on 2024-25).

This would really help support our members by decreasing our membership fees during the current financial climate and support them to continue to take part in their sport and continue to increase their physical health and mental well-being and aim to hopefully bring another trophy home to Irvine.

2025-09-17  •  No comments  •  Broomlands and Bourtreehill Community Association  •  Official position 1  •  Community Wealth Building PB

Creative Connections was created by the people we support within Trindlemoss day opportunities the group voted on the name.

The aim of the group is to learn and build upon people's skills, encouraging imagination to create art that can be applied to various products, including t-shirts, caps, bags, baubles, keyrings.........the list is endless. Everyone that is interested in joining the group , will be encouraged and supported to explore the inner artist and participate in a safe , fun creative environment where they can let their imagination run wild.

People need new opportunities to create, and see their creations come to life. The  benefits to people we support are endless as art therapy is high up in natural remedies for people who challenge our services. The project would build people's confidence, learn new skills, improve people's health and wellbeing, help people express themselves and communicate through art.

The benefits that the project would also offer people the opportunity for work experience, the opportunity  to learn customer skills, learn administration skills when ordering materials and resourcing materials. The group would like to transform community attitudes to promote and support opportunities for people with learning disabilities. The idea behind this group is not only for to understand the process of how a product comes to life, from start to finish. The group hope that the enterprise will give them the opportunity to make new friends, catch up with old ones, create a team of crafters or grafters depending on how well their products and ideas sell. The group would like to create designs on the computer, learn how to operate a Cricut machine and apply the design to a product e.g. t-shirt, cap etc.

The group want to learn the processes of operating the machines , including the safety regulations with a view to being able to sell the items they produce to people who use our Baristamoss cafe and Glam hide Away beauty room.

The group have produced a list of items they would like to start this venture as follows circuit maker four machine £450  circut design space - 1 year membership - £80 sublimation printer- £600 vinyl - £200 sublimation printer paper - £100 heat presses - £800.

Pipe Band warming up before supporting Glen Rosa Horseshoe Race 2025

Isle of Arran Pipe Band

2025-09-16  •  No comments  •  Quinton Black  •  Arran

The Isle of Arran Pipe Band is at the heart of the island’s traditions, carrying its music and spirit into every local gathering, parade, and celebration.

Replacements for pipe chanters, reeds, sticks, and drum skins (£1000) ensure that the music the band produces is clear, tuneful, and powerful enough to fill the open air of island events. These items wear out quickly through constant use, and keeping them in good condition is not a luxury but a necessity. With the right equipment, the band can deliver stirring performances that honour both tradition and community pride.

Benefits for Members

  • Being part of the band gives members a sense of belonging, discipline, and pride.

  • It allows people of all ages to develop musical skills, teamwork, and confidence.

  • For younger players, it provides mentoring from experienced musicians and a positive outlet for their energy and creativity.

  • For adults, it offers a meaningful way to contribute to island life while deepening friendships and community ties.

Benefits for the Community

  • The band is a source of cultural identity, keeping alive Scotland’s iconic pipe and drum traditions for future generations.

  • Their performances bring people together at fairs, memorials, parades, and celebrations, turning events into moments of shared pride.

  • The sound of the pipes and drums is woven into the island’s atmosphere, marking its history and seasons with music that unites residents and visitors alike.

  • By nurturing local talent, the band strengthens intergenerational bonds and creates experiences that children, families, and elders all enjoy.

Supporting the hall hire and essential instrument upkeep is not just about covering costs—it is about safeguarding a living tradition and ensuring that the Isle of Arran Pipe Band continues to enrich island life with its music, spirit, and sense of togetherness.

Barrfields Community Garden

Barrfields Community Garden

2025-08-25  •  No comments  •  LargsCG  •  North Coast and Cumbraes

In Summer 2025 we planted up twelve raised beds and our indoor gorwing space with a wide variety of vegetables, held open days and invited members of the community of all ages and abilities to join in and learn, shared knowledge and food with visitors and donated fresh vegetable harvest to the Largs Food Larder, Clark Memorial Food Bank and directly with residents.

We have created our own social media page with over fifty members, where we share our public events and photographs of recent happenings at the community garden. We have hosted a local nursery on multiple occasions and the children excitedly helped with potato harvest, learned to sow seeds and how to transplant plants, and were able to enjoy peas right out of the pod (many for the first time!) We have opened the space to primary and secondary school classes and invite groups and individuals to visit the garden area to relax in nature and learn more about our community project. The garden volunteers have shared tomatoes, beans, chard, peas, herbs and other vegetables directly with visitors for them to enjoy at home.

We hope to make 2026 even more exciting and bountiful by expanding our community engagement and volunteer network through more local events and open days. We intend to expand the number of local charities we donate to, plant fruit trees and continue growing and sharing local food with Largs.

Five one-ton bags of compost at £50 = £250

Fifteen 50l bags soil at £12 = £180

We allocate tickets and a time slot via our groups Fagebook page in the lead up to each event. Our events are family orientated, where there is always laughter and smiles, with no financial burden on families.

Our Easter event has families taking a wonder around our site in search of baskets of treats left by the Easter Bunny, who likes to make an appearance along the way.

This year we would like to host a Colour run event where participants will get showered in bursts if brightly coloured powder.

We ask for £1000 to be split between the two events.

£250 for treats for Easter

£75 for decoration for events

£100 games for events

£75 crafts for events
