Tourette Scotland - West of Scotland Support Group
2024-09-12 • 3 comments • • Irvine
We are hoping to arrange sports coaching sessions for our young people at The Portal in Irvine. We are also hoping to arrange a visit to Bouncestation - a local play and activity centre. We think it is really important to promote positive physical and mental health in young people who are struggling to cope with the challenges that Tourette's bring. Tourette Syndrome is a complex neurological condition. Many of our young people suffer from social isolation; difficulties at school; judgement from others; dealing with regular health-related appointments; and various other challenges. Our group, based in Irvine, is a safe space for young people - and their families - to meet in person with other young people living with Tourette's. We offer arts and crafts, sporting games and board games at our regular meetings. The aim of our group is to have everyone feel included, supported and understood.
We are hoping to put on six sports sessions throughout the year in addition to our support meetings at Bridgegate in Irvine.
Cost to hire out Portal space and a sports coach, plus provide a healthy drink and snack to each participant - £115 per session.
Cost to take 20 participants to Bouncestation - £310
Total cost: £115 x 6 = £690
+ £310
= £1000
Greenwood Academy Football Team

Greenwood Academy Parent Council wishes to support the 11-18 girls football team. The team attends tournaments throughout the year including Scottish Cup, Spar 7's, Ayrshire Cup and looking to enter the Blackpool International next Easter 2025. We currently have approximately 35 kids at training on a weekly basis and rotate the squad to ensure everyone gets the opportunity to play/be involved in the group.
We have a large number of talented players in the school with 6 girls being selected for the 2nd round of the senior girls Ayrshire squad and have 8 on trial with under 15 South West team. The team provide senior pupils with the opportunity to coach younger groups within the school giving them the opportunity to learn about coaching and improving their responsibilities. This is positive as younger players look up to seniors as positive role models. Staff provide water and free transport to ensure we remove any barriers that young people may face. We have agreements with teams in the community to provide cheaper or free training fee's to ensure everyone gets the same opportunity.
Football strips plus goalie kit £650
Footballs: £22.50 each x7 £135
Waterproof Jackets for subs £18.95 x5 £95
Bibs: £7 each x12 £84
Cones: £9.95 for 10 x2 £19.90
IRVINE YOUTH LEGACY CENTRE

We have previously been lucky enough to secure Youth PB in 23/24 which allowed us to provide free bite to eat during each group for 10 months as this is something that the young people attending the centre where often asking for. Being able to provide young people with a free bite to eat and drink has allowed us to help relive the cost of living crisis from young people and their families. Which is why we would like to be able to continue having this as part of our programme. As well as our free snacks at the youth groups, the centre also hosts “Food chat and chill” on a Sunday evening which is one of our most popular groups this provides young people with a free hot meal. Between the snacks at through the week and food chat and chill the centre has been able to provide over 150 young people with a free meal in the last 10 months. We would like to be able to continue our choice of tuckshop sweets for young people to choose one per night and a range of juice for young people to access. We would also like to stock a range of noodles for young people to have when they are visiting.
water/diluting juice - £200
tuckshop snacks and crisps - £300
noodles/bread/poptarts - £500
