Summary
Poisoned Apple Productions are a small theatre company based in Saltcoats. We have produced a community Pantomime based from St Matthews Academy on Jacks Road in Saltcoats each year (minus covid restrictions) since 2016. Each year over 90% of our team originate from Ayrshire. We aim to keep theatre affordable, local and available. A Christmas pantomime is often a child's first and only visit to a theatrical production and are time-honoured family Christmas tradition.Description
As always, our goal is to write and produce our own community pantomime for families in North Ayrshire, with a special focus on the Three Towns.
It is essential for us to keep our events affordable and accessible to the local community. We recognise that families with multiple children may find it difficult to attend larger pantomimes due to the high costs of travel and tickets. Therefore, we offer a family ticket for our shows, priced at £35 (plus a booking fee payable directly to the booking website), which covers either 1 adult and 3 children or 2 adults and 2 children, with additional babes-in-arms included at no extra charge
Yearly, we have also supplied a tuckshop at the performances each year to ensure that families can buy a treat for their children at affordable prices.
Please find below a summary of costings for the pantomime. We understand that we cannot apply for funding to cover staffing costs, but we would like to include them to provide a clearer overview of the overall expenses.
- Rent of KA Leisure Space (St Matthews Academy based on 2023 pricing) for 3 days: £460
- Costuming: £300
- Marketing (posters and flyer printing): £100
- Tuck shop: £400
- Travel costs: £200
- Rent of Lighting and Sound equipment for 3 days: £1000
- Rehearsal costs: No charge as we have our own rehearsal space
- Technical staffing costs: £1250
Location: Large areas of Saltcoats, Stevenston and Ardrossan are in the 5%, 10% or 20% most deprived areas on the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation 2020. There are 17 data-zones in 15% most deprived in Scotland (North Ayrshire Locality Area (2004-2020). In the whole of Scotland, North Ayrshire ranks 3rd in the most deprived areas in Scotland with (40% of households ), only topped by Glasgow City (1st) and Inverclyde (2nd). We believe the Three Towns deserve some affordable fun and Christmas cheer each year.
Proposed on behalf of: Poisoned Apple Productions
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FROM APPLICANT: Unfortunately, the costs for several necessities for Panto have drastically increased and we have only just been notified. Venue costs have more than doubled / technical requirement costs have gone up 10% which makes this years Christmas Pantomime not financially viable.
We have notified the venue this morning that we are unfortunately unable to proceed, but would be interested in an Easter Pantomime performance.
