Summary

Description

A laptop would be great for our club of about 25 members. We welcome anyone over 18 interested in photography, regardless of skill level. Meeting on a monthly basis we enjoy helping each other make the most of our cameras. A laptop would allow us to have Zoom calls with guest speakers, cutting down on fees and travel expenses, but still allowing us to meet in our relaxed fun loving way, whilst learning about different styles of photography. A laptop could be used to learn post editing skills letting us turn our images from being good ones to fantastic ones.

Amount requested: £399

A Laptop. £399.00 (application is based on the cost of a suitable specification of laptop from recognised retailers)

Location: Largs

Proposed on behalf of: We are a warm and welcoming club who have been running for a year now, meeting on a monthly basis. We are open to anyone over 18 years old who has an interest in photography and who wants to make the most out of their camera, regardless of their skill level or complexity of equipment. We have a varied program with guest speakers, group tasks, and workshops. We use different locations, have days out and ad-hoc meet ups, to which which everyone is invited. This gives variety to the types and styles of photography we take in both a relaxed and fun filled setting. We have a display of our work which is free to the public, hanging in Vikingar. Our recent exhibition of Photographs From Around Scotland was put up in November. Local communities like to be inspired by our fun and laughter. Largs Poetry Club have given us 6 poems to help inspire us with our images. In turn, we are going to present them with photographs to help bring out the best in their poetry. There is going to be a display of photographs and poems hung in Largs Library in March 2023. Again this will be open to the public, free of charge. Our Facebook page is well used. Members pass on information about events which may be of interest, we put up photographs which we are particularly proud of for everyone to admire or perhaps an image we would like some advice on how to impove. The monthly program is displayed in advance and members are given information on what to bring to specific evenings. Our super enthusiastic committee members are always looking for new and fresh ideas. Our monthly meetings are as much about the social interaction as about the photography. It is a meeting place where anybody over the age of 18 is welcome to come and share their ideas. Everybody is enthusiastic about learning more, particularly about the different styles of photography such as micro/macro, street-art, landscape, wildlife, wedding/portraiture, sports or food etc. A favourite evening is when we put together our own workshops, looking at how our cameras work and how to use some of the settings correctly. The sense of achievement you gain when you see the results in your photographs from learning a simple task is amazing. (The one perhaps where you never knew what that button was for). Everybody looks forward to a Guest Speaker as they are able to open a whole new world of photography to us, which is both exciting and interesting. In the future we are hoping to work with other groups and organistions in the town and perhaps be able to start creating a photographic record of places, and interesting buildings events around the town which may be valuable to our future generations.
