Millport Town Hall
Investment project code: 68
Summary
Description
We wish to purchase some Art materials. One of our aims is for activities within the Town Hall to be all inclusive and to provide a central and welcoming space to enhance social well being and cohesion. Problems of isolation and stress will be alleviated and if we are able to reduce our costs using funded materials problems of financial constraints will not prevent some who might otherwise not be able to benefit.

Proposed on behalf of: We’re a charity group formed to regenerate Millport Town Hall from a derelict building into a vibrant, self-sustaining Community Hub, with activities and self-help groups to address anxiety, stress and social isolation & improve mental and physical health. The whole island community, particularly our elderly and more vulnerable community members, will benefit from the community spaces created, an Arts & Culture Centre for performances, exhibitions & community social events, indoor sports facilities for all ages and the improved local environment. The date for the doors of the Town Hall to open is around Easter 2023. The Isle of Cumbrae community faces considerable economic and social challenges as demonstrated by “achieving” their own datazone in the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation 2020 statistics and these have been exacerbated recently by the effects of COVID-19. We have developed the original IT Suite in the front room to house a storage cupboard and a sink suitable for creative Arts and Crafts. Bringing people together to enjoy sessions which are creative and sociable in a warm and welcoming building will provide many benefits such can bolster mood, improve self-confidence, and reduce stress overall. In addition it has been reported that Art activities improve both gross and fine motor movements, and decrease cognitive decline. We would like to start sessions as soon as we are able after opening the building. Fundraising will continue to maintain the sessions and there will be high price commercial building lets and events to subsidise community use.
