Summary

Description

We wish to improve our community’s overall health and wellbeing. Providing practical support as individuals not only continue to try and recover from the Coronavirus pandemic but also now strive to navigate their way through new challenges arising from the current cost of living crisis.

Through facilitating monthly “Community Sunday Afternoon Get Togethers” we wish to provide free access to help tackle both food and fuel poverty, whilst at the same time offering opportunities for inclusive activities. These inclusive activities will help to address some of the social isolation issues that many vulnerable members of our community are currently experiencing.

Funding requested: £800 to contribute towards the cost of food and drinks provision at the Get Togethers

Location: Fullarton Hub, Irvine

Proposed on behalf of: In order to connect our community, improve their wellbeing and support them through the cost-of-living crisis we wish to provide monthly Community Sunday Afternoons Get Togethers. Providing a free Sunday lunch once a month for the most vulnerable members of our community. By meeting in our centre our residents will be able to save on their utility and food bills. Not only will we provide a free two course Sunday lunch, warmth and a safe environment for everyone, but we intend to also offer a variety of community led activities. These will also be free and available for our residents’, should they wish to participate in. Examples of activities that individuals could participate in include arts and crafts workshops, movie afternoons, yoga as well as no cost alternative therapies etc. As well as food, warmth, companionship, volunteering opportunities and free activities members of our community will also be able to access 1:1 support from our specialist staff during these times. This includes our peer support worker, mental health and addiction counsellor, young people’s mentor, intergenerational and family crisis support officer. We aim to commence our “Community Sunday Afternoon Get Togethers” at the end of January 2023 and continue for as long as need and funding dictates.
