Arran High School Mountain Bike Club
Investment project code: 143
Summary
Description
We are building an accessible, family friendly cycling facility at Dyemill, Lamlash. Opening in August 2023, the facility will encourage community wide social connections, physical activity benefiting health and wellbeing, encourage positive environmental practice including, composting toilet, solar powered floodlights, rainwater harvesting and community trail maintenance through volunteering. Our large, open shelter adjacent the pump track will encourage all weather use of the facility. We would like this funding to go towards an open fire and flue, improving the seasonal use of the space, and encouraging opportunity for increased social interaction beyond bikes.
Amount Requested: £1000
Donated concrete culvert pipe to form base of open fire. £500 - to constrct bespoke fire hood. £500 - for 150mm stove flue pipe and fittings.
Location: Arran High School Mountain Bike Club
Proposed on behalf of: Opening in August 2023, this facility will be free to use unrestricted, by the public. We will promote its use and encourage free use of bikes and helmets. We will host volunteer maintenance days and provide coaching and qualifications to children and young people. We will install interpretation boards, educating on the environment, local history and geology. This facility willallow our group to extend the postitive benefit our current club memebrs gain and share it further with all of our community. Whether its through the free to use bike repair station or accessign the facility late at night in winter when most other activities are closed, we hope our facility delivers transformational impact to our access and opportunity deprived island community.
