Community Transport
Description
Community transport is a local transport service designed to help people who may struggle to use regular public transport services. It supports a range of people - including older people, people with disabilities, people living in rural areas, and anyone who has difficulty accessing buses or taxis – to move around and be independent. Coalfield Community Transport currently run a range of community transport services in East Ayrshire and are exploring the opportunities that could be brought to North Ayrshire with support from the Council.
This consultation is looking for your perspective on two main areas:
- The offer of a shared minibus for community groups to use. This would include the offer of minibus driver training for a member of the group, removing the need to pay for a separate driver. The bus would be booked by the group in advance for their needs.
- Ideas for how to use the vehicles in ways that would add value when not in use by community groups. Some examples of community transport services elsewhere in Scotland include a dedicated local shopper service, or day trips to different places that can be joined as an individual.
The proposals we are considering relate to mainland North Ayrshire, as we are working with island partners to support and test alternative provision on Arran and Cumbrae. However, we would still value your perspectives as island residents, as this will help inform broader approaches to community transport across the local authority. We have included further information in the document below, which you should read before completing the questions.
The consultation is open to responses from both groups/organisations and individuals.
If you require any support to participate, your local Library will be able to help you to access the consultation, and information on how to log in to the site is available here: https://northayrshire.communitychoices.scot/d/357
All responses should be received by midnight on Sunday 12th July, after which answers will be reviewed and a decision made based on your feedback about the direction of the project.
