Summary
We are looking for funding to help support our Community Larder, which will be 3 years old come November, initially launch as a food bank during COVID and later developing to the Larder model. The funding would be used to purchase an additional upright glass fronted freezer, Countertop Food Display Unit, for the free pastries we receive, lable maker, and Individual Aprons / fleece for our volunteers.
Description
Dalry Community Sports Club have a number of key priorities which were originally based on increasing the health and wellbeing of our community through various sports and leisure activities. Prior to the pandemic we were also looking at opportunities to help address, both social isolation and food deprivation issues, aligning ourselves with some of the key priorities of North Ayrshire Council and Scottish Government. As part of these priorities we have been operating our Community Larder since Nov 2020, initially as a foodbank during the pandemic, but now aligned with NAC`s Community Larder model, where customers pay £4, for a selection of items, and also a variety of free short dated / best before items. To complement this, we opened our warm space throughout the winter period, but have actually kept this going all year now. Once people have visited the larder, they can then have a hot / cold drink and a filled roll / biscuit. Both the Community Larder and the Warm Space have allowed both individuals and families the opportunity to meet and socialise with other members of the community previously unknown to them. We operate both the Community Larder and the Warm Space on a Wednesday night and a Saturday morning. Since the cost of living crises started, we have seen the numbers of people attending our Community Larder steadily increase. We are now seeing more families attending these, and more people who are working. To support these activities, it has put a strain on the commitment of our volunteers, but also on the stress and strain of constantly looking for funding opportunities to support these. Local businesses have been great here, where we work in partnership with Tesco, ASDA, Bookers, Co-op, Irvine`s Bakery, Lidl and Reid`s Food Services, who supply us with a combination, of either free short dated / best before items, or items at discounted prices. Unfortunately over the last 12 months, we have seen how the rising costs have impacted on our funding, where it doesn`t buy as much. To help us get the best value for money, and bulk buy when the prices are good, we require the purchase of an addition upright freezer and pastries storage. We further require a labelling machine so that we can mark up items of food that we pick up free, and aprons / fleeces which would help give our volunteers a feeling of identity.

Location: Dalry Community Sports Club was founded in 2007, is a constituted group and has been a registered charity since 2014. Initially, our key aims were to advance public participation in sport in Dalry and the surrounding area by promoting and providing opportunities for a wide range of sporting and leisure activities in an accessible manner to all groups of people and to improve the fitness and health of the persons for whom the activities are intended. Through these initiatives, we will strive to generate an environment to live in which strengthens our community, recreating the levels of inclusion enjoyed by previous generations. Over recent years we have built on this, and also looked for opportunities to help address key issues within our community, including, social isolation, food deprivation, mental health & wellbeing and cost of living issues. We currently run / support a number of initiatives, including our Community Larder, Community Warm Space, Parklives Project, Summer Camp, Gala Days, Arts & Craft Day, Skirt the Skeith Childrens / Adult run, Started Dalry Mens Shed, supporting Dalry She-Shed all of these offering an opportunity for people to come together, and have free or low cost food and activities. Our latest project is our Community Allotments where we are working in partnership with DSM Products and are currently at the Planning submission stage, and would hope completion for next season. All of our activities we see as key, in helping to bring people together and help to build a better, more inclusive and stronger community for us all to live in. Dalry Community Sports Club, is currently in the final stages of an asset transfer process in relation to the sports pavilions / old tennis courts within the park and are looking to utilise these assets to improve the facilities and activities available in Dalry Public Park, helping to encourage people to make more use of the open space that Dalry Public Park overs, and the opportunity to bring people together through various activities. Dalry Community Sports Club, has worked in partnership with a variety of organisation over the years, including other local groups, North Ayrshire Council, Active Schools, KA Leisure, Local Primary Schools, Garnock Campus, DSM Products, Playtime Early Years, Community Association and Dalry Menshed. We will continue to work with these stakeholders to explore additional opportunities to help us build a better community.
