Honey extraction, although a rewarding process, is also physically demanding and often leads beginner beekeepers to give up the hobby after just a few seasons.
Mechanical means of extraction are available in the form of electrically powered spinners, however, they are an expensive investment beyond the means of most amateur beekeepers.
Arran Bee Group members are non-commercial beekeepers who, although they may sell their harvested honey, this is more often than not at a financial loss. Any monies recouped may even be donated to charity, for example, one of our North End members supports the charity Mary's Meals.
A grant for the purchase of an electric spinner would increase the supply of affordable, locally produced honey to the island community and beyond, delivering the health benefits of this delicious natural superfood, while contributing to the health and wellbeing of this growing group with all its environmental benefits.
Support Community Gardens Across Arran

We aim to further enhance Arran's community gardens and green spaces through continued development of different models forest garden principles and no-dig techniques. This project will increase biodiversity, improve soil health, and boost local food production. Our team will use this funding to provide on-the-ground sessions on forest garden design and no-dig methods, and supply essential materials to participating gardens for the 2024/2025 season.

Irvine Vineburgh Boxing Club

We would like funding to contribute towards the costs of running the club which helps young people and adults alike. For younger members, it takes them off the streets, teaches them how to look after their physcial and mental wellbeing. It also teaches them discipline and how to conduct themselves in the community.
The club is open Monday to Friday and has a membership fee of £4 per session or £10 to attend 5 nights in one week. We would like to keep this cost as low as possible for families so it's accessible to young people, so by getting this funding will help us subsidise the costs.
Taking part in the club helps improve members health and wellbeing through exercise and building relationships between members. The funding will also help towards the cost of living crisis for members as it will reduce the costs of taking part in this activity which is invaluable to members of the Vineburgh and Redburn neighbourhoods.

Arran Friendship Cafe

AFC has formed to maintain social connections and support for older people on Arran, following the cessation of the Well Being Café in September 2024. The group plans to run fortnightly café-style meetings to support the health and wellbeing of older people (and their carers/family) on Arran by reducing social isolation and loneliness and empowering members to build a supportive community. The meetings will be held in church /village halls and support will be delivered in a relaxed and supportive environment, both by peers, volunteers, individuals and organisations.
The new group aims to increase its impact and reach by working more broadly with organisations and services on Arran and is looking to address barriers that may prevent older people attending the cafes and encourage new members.
What do we need:
In this bid, we are seeking funding to enable us to hire a hall to run a café in an additional location and to provide resources to cover meeting costs (venue hire, a healthy soup and bread lunch, activities, external practitioners, photocopying and cleaning materials) in the short term (up to a year) whilst we move towards a self-funding position. Whilst opportunity to meet in a safe, warm space underpins these meetings, the provision of healthy refreshments and games and activities that promote mental and physical wellbeing, significantly enhance the benefit and impact of the cafes but are funding dependent in the short term. We are proposing a nutritious low-cost soup and bread light lunch on arrival to ensure our members have a hot meal in the middle of the day. Previous sessions involving external practitioners have also proved very successful and we are keen to build on this success with a diverse and engaging programme of activities as funds permit moving forwards.
Breakdown of costs:
Based on 22 meetings per annum; we could hold the first 9 at our fixed base and then seek to hold the remainder in different locations and so support more members.

High Flats Afternoon Club

We would like to apply for funding to take the residents of Saltcoats High Flats on trips and outings throughout the year. As an older community of people with a range of mobility needs, many of us live by ourselves. We can go days without talking to people. The High Flats Afternoon Club brings us together with the common theme of living in the same buidling.
We would like to be able to book some trips and days out but due to many different mobility needs, such as walking frames, sticks etc, we need accessible transport. Transport is very expensive and if we were to get £800, we could use a varierty of taxis, minibus or small bus hires to take us on some days out.

Nature Inclusion for Walk and Wheel

Our proposed project will support the more vulnerable people in the community during the winter months, those at risk of increased social isolation, loneliness and depression.
Largs has a higher percentage of elderly and a higher percentage of people less mobile. Giving them that life line in winter to connect with people encourages them out of the house to be part of daily life in the community. The social interaction promotes a sense of belonging and safety for those more vulnerable in the winter months.
This will also showcase local establishments who support poor mobility by easy access, encouraging others to spread the word of local residents involved in community life. We believe that poor mobility should not mean poor involvement.
We propose to meet fortnightly during 6 months of winter. 12 events for an estimated 10 residents at each. £8 towards each lunch is £80 x 12 = £960.
Men's Shed Dalry

Funding will help to purchase tools, consumables, and training for men to participate in productive activities such as: fly-tying, bicycle refurbishment and repair and the manufacture of products from recycled wood.
The output from these activities is directed to other community groups and to those in need. to date we have recycled over 200 bicycles which have been used to quickly mobilises refugees settling in north Ayrshire. Promoting a sustainable and healthy form of exercise and free transportation, also contributing reduce pollution and support a greener north Ayrshire.
We have also been manufacturing garden furniture specifically directed towards members of the community who have limited financial resources and invite them to make an affordable donation as opposed to us implementing a pricing structure.
Ultimately, we exist as a sanctuary for those suffering from isolation, loneliness and mental health issues, facilitating therapeutic, Character-building activities.
We Seek to purchase dual-bevel mitre saw at circa £500.
and train 3 people to Velotech bronze standard to allow them to participate in bicycle maintenance safely and with appropriate knowledge. training costs £360 PP
We intend to cover the excess costs from shed funds.
Coffee and Connect

Our group comes together once per week during term time where we enjoy each other’s company over a cuppa and blether. We also often take part in activities like flower planting, walking outdoors, being creative with arts and crafts. We have also previously connected with different organisations and partners such as Megan Space, NEST and Breathing Space, this has giving us tools to support each other and our families.
We would like the opportunity to bring our families together during the holiday periods, to help reduce any financial strain during this time. It also reduces isolation as it encourages us to get out and mix with other families. If we were successful in getting the funds, we would use the money for 1 family trip to heads of Ayr farm park and 1 family fun day at the Children 1st space. While it’s important to spend time together as families, we are also looking for money to support our weekly coffee and chat meet ups to help us to sustain and build on the group. We would spend the remaining money on 1 therapeutic experience and 2 breakfast morning. This financial support will build our confidence within our local community, support our emotional health and wellbeing, and reduce the impact of the cost-of-living crisis has on us.

North Ayrshire Tandem Cycling

North Ayrshire Tandem Cycling (NATC) is a local group set up in August 2023 that allows Vision Impaired people to enjoy cycling with the support of a Fully Sighted, Fully Trained Pilot. We currently have 11 members who are Vision Impaired and 15 fully Sighted members. We enjoy weekly organised outings. NATC is a new project that has had a phenomenal response from the local community including donations of tandems and people volunteering to Pilot tandems for Vision Impaired people. This has benefited members by improving their mental and physical health. It allows Vision Impaired people to meet other people with Visual Impairments and helps Sighted Pilots understand some of the impacts of Vision Impairment. Members are also improving their physical fitness as well as their mental health. NATC intends to run regular events to recruit new members both Sighted and Vision impaired as well as raise awareness of Vision Impairment. The aim is for NATC to grow and support more Vision Impaired people. NATC has liaised with another Tandem Cycling Club in Glasgow which has been successfully running for several years learning from their experiences and advice. NATC would like to purchase Spare parts for our Tandems, ie, Tubes, Cables and Tyres. We also want to have our Tandems serviced to make them safe for Vi's to ride.
S.A.S. explorer scout unit

The explorer unit is based in the three towns and is made up of young people aged between 14 and 18 years of age. The unit leaders are unable to supply the adventurous activities that the young persons wish to take part in. These activities are available at the nation Scout Outdoor Activity centre at Lochgoilhead. They would be able to take part in activities like abseiling, climbing, mountain biking, burn run, sailing and kayaking . We plan to attend there in March 2025 which would allow us time to raise sufficient funds to attend. The total cost for this project is £2050. The cost includes accommodation, food, all activities and safety equipment. We plan to take a party of 12 persons to this event. Booking for the centre is £167 per head. Total of £2004. Transport by private cars is estimated at £46 to cover fuel costs.
