Coastwatch Scotland
Investment project code: 108
Summary
Description
Our project is to teach basic life support (CPR) skills to people from across Irvine at events where we engage with the public and from our base at the beach park. We already do this in a limited capacity using CPR training dolls, but we would like to buy 20 sets so that we can teach bigger groups and take it into school.
Funds requested: £1000
BHF Push Call Rescue kit - £534.60 x 2 Total - £1000 (plus £69.70 contribution)
Location: Beach Pavillion, Irvine
Proposed on behalf of: Less than 1 in 10 people in the UK survive an out of hospital cardiac arrest, early CPR and early defibrillation can significantly increase the chances of someone surviving if people know what to do correctly and effectively. Our programme of educating young people and communities will make it a much safer place to live with more people having the skills to carry out effective CPR. Coastwatch is run entirely by volunteers and it would be those volunteers delivering the CPR training. Some of them are vulnerable and don't get out much, so being able to get out and deliver this life saving training is really beneficial to their mental health. Coastwatch exists to keep communities safe and also keep volunteers upskilled and engaged in our work. We regularly run social nights to allow volunteers to get to know each other more informally and help them become more effective volunteers and members of the community.
